Everything about the MPC3000 is discussed here, and if you have an MPC60 with 3.10 you'll know what to expect plus 16bit, stereo, digital input, 32mb, Vailixi etc. What specific feedback do you need?

There is a thread discussing the benefits of the MV here...

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=157465

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=144790

and the MPC3000, king of the MPC's?

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=80028

Any specific questions about the MPC3000?

those machines are so different... workflow is different, sound is different, features are different, pads are different... sequencer feels different.... if you have a lot of external gear to sequence via midi I say go for the 3000... unless they are romplers, then you could create patches for them in the mv.

You gotta figure out what fits your style and needs... cause they are entirely different. I say get both.

I own an MV 8000 with VGA and an MPC60 with OS 3.10. To me the MV was a bit of a let down, I thought that the mouse and computer monitor would simplify things, but to me it just made things more complicated. I find my MPC60 to be much more intuitive, straightforward, and more user friendly for sequencing and sampling and I'm sure the MPC3000 is similar.

I find the menus and interface of the MV somewhat clunky and I find that the timing on the sequencer of the MV seems loose in comparison to an MPC60 when it comes to real time sequence recording. One great thing about the MV though is it's really easy to integrate an audio track into a sequence and being able to visually see where patterns are located within a sequence as opposed to just numeric values is also a major plus. You can also mixdown and master on it as well. I think it's also compatible with more sound formats than any of the MPCs, I'm not 100% sure though.

If I had to choose I'd go with the MPC3000, $700 is a good deal if it comes with an external card reader. In my opinion $500 is a little on the steep end for an MV8000. If you've got the money I'd say get both and see which one you like better. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. Another option I'd suggest is an MPC 4000, great sequencing and sampling features with minimal menu diving and to me it's more user friendly than an MV.

I have no experience of the MV, looks VERY cool though, I would like to try a 8800.

I think the MPC3000 prob suits me better as its simple 'just get on with it' machine without bells and whistles that can distract you. if you just want to sample and then bang a beat out the 3000 is very focus'd and good music can be made real quick. also I have a lot of oldschool synths, and the sound of the 3000 suits me more than a cleaner sounding sampler.

MV8800 is maybe more for someone who wants to do 90% of the work on a beat before tracking to DAW.

for the sake of a balanced opinion need to point out, a MV is less likely to need:
new screen
new pad sensors,
new tact switches
RAM
3.5os
a expensive internal CF drive

if you are very unlucky your 3000 might need all of that - or at the very least 2 of these. I did the RAM/CF drive/3.5os and am still F'ing trying to get the pads to a useable state.

Unless you want to rock low memory, zip disks, dead pads I would consider your MPC3000 a 1k purchase with all the extras.

I think 4000 vs MV8800 is a better 'vs' in terms of features. I would choose the 4000.

Yeah 4000's are as low as $600USD lately. (although you won't likely get the output expander at that price) Probably worth taking into consideration as you weigh out the two others.

Comparing 1994 design/hardware/features with what is it for the MV8000 2003?? Only thing these two joints have in common is 16 pads, pretty much everything else is totally different. I had an MV8800 which had all the bells and whistles, what it lacked was immediacy, workflow and soul. But if you were to compare the MV8000/8800 to any MPC it could only be the MPC4000, as others have already alluded to.

Don't sell your MPC60 to get an MV8000, the MPC3000 is a natural progression.

and even then... you can only compare them visually... 16 square rubber things on a metal case... the pads dont act the same way at all. They are both good.. in different ways.

Intuitive and simple workflow, two reasons you appear to have made a good decision. I found that even with the mouse, onboard sounds, colour screen and VGA monitor the MV just didn't inspire me, plus I didnt have the time to learn a new instrument from scratch.

I've owned both and for my tastes, you made a good choice. The MV is a great machine but counterproductive to my tastes.

its atleast 1500 usually

If you are paying $1500 for an MPC3000, you are retarded.

Have a look at the completed listings on ebay, even though sellers are asking that much, most people are not paying it, they seem to sell below $1000.

that's craigslist in canada for you... it's filled with people trying to sell s3000xl racks for 350 dollars... sp404 (the old version) for 450 bucks... i've seen people trying to get 1400 bucks for an asr10, and 1200 bucks for a stock mpc60.

now, who knows if they sell... but inflated prices is how it is up here... you could find a 3000 for 700 bucks on ebay from the US.. then pay 100+ dollars shipping (if you are lucky enough to find one at 700 or less that they will ship to canada) and then you have the 150+ dollars on duty... the chance it will arrive broken and have to service it.. I guess the sellers factor that in and add all that when listing it plus a profit.
