mpc 60 is it worth it for the price

Hi,

I was offered a deal to purchase an MPC 60 (fist model) and an akai s3000xl for $1200.00. The mpc has max RAM installed, SCSI, 3.10 OS and brand new screen is also installed.
Also comes with a ZIP drive with cables and manual.

I saw the prices on ebay going through the roof for an mpc 60.

I already have an mpc1000 with jjo2xl. The seller is firm about the price (non- negociable), is it worth it considering that I have the mpc 1000.

One thing that I forgot to mention is that I lso have an Akai s950 that I use along with my mpc 1000 for drums.

those are all expensive and increasingly rare upgrades on that 60.

not too sure about the s3000xl.


but you already sequence on a 1000 with jjos and you have an s950...

kinda redundant imo, and definitely less robust on the sequencer side of things...


the "workflow" of the more streamlined sequencer on the 60 may be more intuitive to your own style of composition and "workflow" though...


i dont know schit bout jjos2xl.

just pass.

if you really NEEDED any of those additional models you wouldn't even be asking questions here... just stick with what you've got and master it.

Knowing what you already have I'd say you don't really need a 60 with all the upgrades. Wait it out and if you really want to get the classic machine, one with 3.10 and the memory upgrade will see you good. It will be a fair bit cheaper too. It won't add much to your setup except vintage charm,nostalgia and of course the kudos of ownership. Even consider getting a stock machine and testing the waters before adding any upgrades, which are easier to find now than they were a year or two ago.

In many ways going from a 1K JJOS to a 60 may feel like a step backwards feature wise.. however nostalgia aside, there is great comfort in having the expanded lay out of the 60 and many would agree the workflow is more intuitive. you also get double the outputs for audio & midi, more sync options and a much nicer sound imo.. the 3000XL also beats the 1K in overall sound & sampling features..
