Can't save samples to mpc 3000..

Hi, I've just got the external card reader and connected it to the mpc 3000.

Did all the process:

1) connect the two machines
2) put the card inside the card reader
3) turn on the card reader
4) turn on the mpc 3000
5) format the card
6) got a mic, connected to the back of the mpc
7) record a couple of sound just to try..

here's the problem..the machine sampled right but when I saved the samples it says this:

Sorry this file or possibly the entire disk containd damage data.
For safety tranfer any other good files on this disk to another disk and stop using this disk.

How can contain damage data? I've just formatted it..!

You fail to mention which brand/size CF card you are using, you will get errors if you use a card that doesnt work. Not all CF cards will work, so it pays to do a little research.

If you have access to multiple CF cards, try them all.

Hi, I'm using transcend compact flash 4 gb.

The guy that sold me the card reader told me that they will work with the mpc 3000..

Actually I've tryed to transfer some sound from the akai library of my mac to the card and I was able to load them into the mpc..

..but maybe for saving is a total different thing..

I tell you even that I've just tryed 10 minutes ago to save a 2 seconds sample and suddenly it was able to save it..so after that I tryed to save another sample but the same messagge of error came out again..

a lot of people have had mixed results from transcend - sandisk extreme III or Ultra II might be better, 1GB size.

you got a pic of the external - it doesn't use a multislot PCD drive does it? seen few of these being sold by USA sellers, not sure if they actually work...

Contact the seller, ask if he specifically tested saving and loading samples on an MPC3000 with the exact CF card he sold you (if he did sell it to you). You may have the basis of a eBay claim, or at the very least some of the excellent support he claims to offer buyers.

well the CF>IDE tray (black part) looks correct to me - who knows how its wired inside.

Highly likely its the flash card - a lot of people would never F with the transends or kingston specifically on a MPC3000/60

but I've got more experience with internals than I do externals, shouldn't be much difference, but maybe its a odd termination thing - can always fiddle with jumper settings inside the enclosure if you need to.


I've marked up the below for you - I've had ok luck with a Jessops CF card (blue label), a few random Lexars (NOT all by a long shot), and am trying out a few others at the moment.

you can tell the correct format because its SQUARE.

please note - I didn't make the drive, so can't guarantee this CF card will solve your problem - its just a good place to start, as I've never known transcends to work well with the 3000 or 60 - where as those specific sandisks have always worked for me.

After trying quite a few different CF cards in my MPC3000 CF reader I can say that I get different results with all of them.

I have a Kingston and a Sandisk that don't work at all and a 100X Kingston, Sandisk and Jessops that work great.
Only a Lexar let's me transfer files between my Akai S1000 CF card reader and my MPC3000 CF card reader, although the Lexar cannot be used in the S1000 to load samples because it corrupts them... but they load fine in the 3000 with it... Twilight zone..

It also depends on the card reader; I got different results with different cards based on different firmwares installed onto my SCSI-IDE adapter bridge.

Also, gotta be wary of fake CF cards sold on eBay.

often seems more down to the model number rather than the brand - interesting you got some kings tons working, I've not heard of that before.

Hi guys, just to let you know, I've received the SanDisk Ultra II 1 gb and it works perfectly.

Now I can record a sample in the mpc, save it into the ultra II then tranfering the sample to the mac and tranfer the sample again back to the mpc 3000.

The last thing I should point out is that when you name the sample in the mpc the first time you must name the sample with 8 letters for some compatibility reason, if you don't do that later you'll have problems when you tranfer back to the mpc from the computer.
