The "right" cable for the "right" sound ( rec in ) ?

I am a new owner of a MPC 60.
I understand it samples in mono cuz there's only 1 rec in. I know how to use the machine, sample,chop, make sequences and so,.. but i'm not sure if i use the right cable ?.. I got this one -> http://www.bostroms.nu/pub_images/large/cab631_6484.jpg

Im using bot of the RCA from output on my vestax mixer, ( got the turntable connected to it ) but im only using the red one on the other side, to rec in on the MPC,.
I can hear sounds i sample from my turntable and in to the mpc.. But the other one is just hangin' around,

but I quickly realized that it didnt work. ( It's a stereo cable ? ).



Can I use the cables that I have now.? I will get sound into the sampler, it sounds OK to me, but is it "right"?

Yes the first cable you had is fine.

if having the other half of the cable hanging like that bothers you, you can tear the cable you're using down the middle and make 2 separate mono cables as well...

Thanks!. I just did that.. Only using the red right now.. From the mixer to rec in.. At first I thought that I had to use the both RCA from the DJ-mixer.. But yea, it's 2 separate cables yes... Could make em 2, like you said.. Haha..

Damn im too stupid..

But ill go for it.. It sounds good anyway..
It's a little bit low in volume from the stereo out to my speakers, compared to the sound that coming from the USB-soundcard when I use my daw.. But I guess it's normal ?. I set the BAL on the mixer all the way to the L and it was a little bit louder..

Using one side of the stereo cable will only give you that one side of the stereo signal, obviously.

There is no problem with this, but some recordings that you are sampling might have a slightly, or completely, different signal on one side of the stereo image to the other, depending on how it is mixed originally.

The options are to use one side or the other of the stereo cable, as you are, or some sort of mixing device to mix the left and right stereo outputs into a single mono output, before feeding into the MPC.

If using a mixing device, to mix the stereo signal to mono, you might run into problems there with phase between the stereo channels, which might sound wrong/weird when mixed to mono, again depending on how the track was mixed originally.

Basically, if it sounds good, it is good.

The volume out of the MPC into your speakers will be different to other devices, as each device will have differ output levels. As long as you are getting decent levels into the MPC when sampling, it should be fine.
