floppy troubles [problem solved]

The floppy drive on my MPC60 went bananas after inserting a really old and dusty floppy disk.
Only 1 MPC60 formatted floppy is still working.

I took the Teac FD-235HF Drive from the S6000 and installed it in the MPC60.
I then set the jumpers as shown here:

... which should be correct, according to Elmacaco and DJames.

However, when I insert a floppy disk, I get the error message that there is no disk in the drive (FF80, I believe)
I checked all the cables, and everything fits nicely.
I also tried the old floppy drive again... still the same... reading only 1 floppy.
Don't think there is anything wrong with the Teac FD-235HF, as it is working perfectly in the Akai S6000.

Does someone know what I can do to fix this?

I had to connect the cable upside down, as this drive was designed for PC's.

What is upside down on a cable?

Should just need the cable oriented/connected so that it connects pin 1 on the floppy drive to pin 1 on the floppy controller.


EDIT: Read the link above, cable is flipped if it is a 2 drive PC crossover floppy cable, or if it is a single drive cable without the twist for 2 drives?

Hm.. He's saying something else though. I misunderstood.
However, I flipped the connection and it is working

Maybe the new Teac drive was upside down, compared to the old one.
I have no idea. Anyway it is working



I am quite amused, as MPCstuff lists the floppy drive for 160, and it is sold out...
A good floppy drive was just 100 cm away from the broken one.

If you have no twist in your cable, maybe your 'upside down' orientation is just the correct orientation that connects pin 1 on the drive to pin 1 on the controller?
