No sound when pressing the pads on MPC 60 II

Peace, I just bought a used MPC 60 II, 3.1.0 version.

My main problem: After sampling a sound and attempting to assign it to a pad, when I press the pad (on main screen) it does not play the sample. (After assigning the sample to a pad, I did hit enter)

1 - I've read something on here about needing to assign the midi notes to the pads prior to sampling? so I tried that via the midi button. Set em all up starting with 35 on pad A-1, 36 on pad A-2, etc etc.

2 - I also read something about changing the (Chn): "field" on MAIN SCREEN to 16x and Drum? (This part confuses me because I don't know if it's required, and if it is, all I get is 1 through 16, A through D. Ex: 16A, 15A, 9B, 13D... etc etc (Where does the x come from, and what section do you set to drum?)

3 - I also read something about local mode on and off and resetting something to default?

(When I picked it up the guy had it hooked up to his monitors for testing, I pressed the pads and they produced some drum sounds. (I didn't bother to check or notice but he probably had it set up to midi)

- I've sampled correctly, chopped and named the sample.

- Named my program and seq the same.

- Set up the midi notes to the pads prior to sampling.

- The hi hat fader on the left of the machine is turned up to full.

- Yes the pads work, (I tested them in the drum mix screen, plus when I bought it)

- Yes I have output sound because I've sampled and chopped already and heard playback of the sample with the soft key "play/stop"

- Yes the main volume is turned up

I'm using headphones at the moment, and like I said I know I got output sound because I can sample with no problem (while using headphones)

All I need to do at this time is sample from vinyl, I have no interest yet in hooking it up with midi.

If anyone has any idea how to help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe it has something to do with midi settings?

All you should need is for the track on the Main Screen to be set to DRUM, and Local MIDI set to ON, I think.

Are you assigning a sample to each pad, in the "SOUNDS-1.Select Program, assign sounds" screen, by hitting a pad to select it, and choosing a sample for that pad to play in the SOUND: field?

You don't seem to mention this specifically in the steps you have tried above.

I actually figured it out, it was the 3rd point I was describing, I just needed to reset the INiT PARAM back to default in the OTHER MENU, then it immediately assigned to pad no problem.

But I overlooked that when I read about it on here. Probably because someone was mentioning it for a different technical issue.

Not used a 60 but on the MPC 3000 you go to the MIDI routing settings and turn Local Mode On or Off from there.

I was going to suggest you do that because when you make a song and change a bunch of stuff like mixer volumes or pretty much anything.... it gets saved when you power off the mpc because the 60 has a battery built in. The problem is when you make a new song... all those settings from the previous song might not fit what you are doing. I save params onto the floppy every project which fixes that issue.
