MPC 60II Voltage Switch Help.

My newly acquired MPC60II has a voltage switch from 240-220/230v. Am I going to have to buy a step down converter to use it in the US?

I bought it from a guitar center in LA. I have read the manual and it of course says 120v 60hz for US. I am afraid to plug it in.

Do not plug it in!

It would need a step up convertor, with sufficient power rating, to step up your 110VAC to 220-240VAC.

If it has a 220/230-240VAC selector switch, it is most likely a European version, made for 220-240VAC.

Unless the transformer inside has been replaced with a 110VAC version, which you wouldn't know unless opening it up, and seeing if it marked as to what voltage or version it is.

Do these transformers convert from 50hz to 60hz as well?

I looked through the service manual and mine has the "VEBS" label on the back so it is definitely the European version.

You need to open up your MPC to see if someone had changed the transformer but did not document it on the back of the unit.

If you have a European transformer, you can probably find someone in Europe to swap transformers with as many people import their machines from the US.

If you open it, and find a European transformer, I would swap for a US version.

Mine has a label on the transformer that includes L4003-C,A in the transformer model number, the C,A stands for Canada, America.

A European transformer would have EVBS on the label, instead of C,A.

Man you would be surprised how many retail employees aren't even aware that there is a standard voltage difference in many countries outside of the U.S.

Trying to find a step up converter today has been an unsuccessful venture laced with incompetence.

You should open it up and have a look at what internal transformer is in there, before buying a step up transformer, in case someone has swapped it out already for a US version.

It is the middle of the night and I am about to go to Walmart and buy a new screwdriver set since the one here seems to have been hidden from me (not the first time...my tinkering just isn't appreciated really ).

Man it's crazy how clean this thing is on the inside. All of the ICs are Toshiba "Made in Japan".

Anyway, I'm having a hard time getting any clues as to whether this is the original transformer/power board.

There is a voltage and fuse warning next to the fuses printed in English and French text. But other than that, I see nothing leading me to believe that it's been changed. Of course this is the first 60 that I've ever seen naked.

Maybe you more experienced techs can view these pics and find out for me.

Actually...If you look closely at this one you'll see I've found the info I need. 250v is printed on that block at the bottom.

The transformer is in the centre of this photo, hidden behind the orange and purple wires, I think I can just see a white paper sticker/label on top of the transformer, through the middle of the orange and purple loop of wires, does it say L4003-EVBS, or something like that?...
