Some specific usage questions …

Gents,

first off, I want to use mixer and effects automation. Understanding this correctly, automation needs to be applied in each sequence used within a song. Is there a method to dump all mixer, effects mixer and effects settings at the beginning of a sequence, other than manually dialling in all relevant settings in Step Edit mode? Think of scene memory and similar options, apparently not present in the 3000 (Vailixi 3.5)?
What are your recommended best practices to work with mixer automation in Song Mode (not recording automation after converting a whole Song => Sequence)?

Secondly, what other method exists to duplicate a song other than saving it and re-open it on the next song track/slot*?

Has anyone also experienced a slightly audible distortions when using layered BDs, low frequency basslines and a melody altogether, when all samples have been normalized to yield -0,1db max peak in a DAW? None of the samples in question are full on in the stereo mixer. Is it possible to overload the sum of the 3000 (at least on the headphone output)? Seems I have to lower their max peak in the DAW to avoid that issue …

The distortion artefacts seem to disappear when lowering all channels about 14 ticks in the Stereo Mixer, this issue still seems weird to me. Suggestions, anyone?

I don't expect many studio guys use the mixer and FX automation, thats what DAW's are for (and much better at). Those who play out live are more likely to dabble in those features, however I don't see many MPC3000's being used for live sets.

Thank you for answering, Clint, I'm surprised to hear that. My main intention in buying a 3K was to dismiss the DAW completely from my process which—apart from occasional extra editing—happened as expected. I'd like to make maximum use out of it and for a couple of other reasons, automation is paramount to this. Playing live is one reason, at a much later stage.

My workaround (for now) for duplicating a song is to program it yet again, relying on my manually written list of sequences and written layout of the sequence of sequences and repetitions.

It turns out the distorting culprit is a -80 pitched down LM1 kick drum, interfering with other low freq. sounds. The distortions can be audibly linked to the LM1 events. Will have to see how than can be cleaned up … maybe lastly resorting to individual outs and (multiband) EQ'ing.

Correcting myself here, the distortion only seems to disappear, obviously …
