Sampling with MPC 60

Hello!

I just bought an MPC 60 which has a floppy drive. Ihave two questions:

1) Should I only by Sample floppys for the MPC 60? Or will any of them work?

2) I've read that I can sample at a higher speed and then stretch out the sample to save memory. Are there any instructions as how to do this?

there is no such thing as a sample floppy that I am aware of... use regular HD floppies (1.44mb) and tape the hole in the top left corner.. or use DD floppies. Brand new floppy disks will be more reliable than used ones. You format them in the mpc first.


the stretching thing... if I am right you are talking about the old trick.. back in the day people would take LPs on the vinyl player and switch the button over to 45rpm so it plays faster... then you record that instead into the mpc.. then pitch it back down to normal in the sample edit screen. That way the sample is shorter and you will have more room for more samples.

You mentioned pitching it back down, I'm guessing the sample can also be stretched?

pitching and stretching are not the same thing... but they can be.


when you play a sample at normal pitch... you turn the pitch down it makes the sample longer... if it was one second and you turned it way down it may now be 1.5 or 2 seconds long now.. the lower you pitch it down the longer the length... right? this sort of stretches it out.

but time stretching is different.. the mpc 60 doesn't have that feature... it would make the sample longer without lowering the pitch.. you don't care about that anyways for the vinyl trick I wrote about earlier.

With OS 3.10e you can resample at a lower sampling rate to save memory but you can't stretch things.
You'll find the instructions in the manual.
