Data Wheel on my 60

What's going on fellas? My data wheel is starting to fade it seems..
When I turn it the number or parameter I'm trying to increase does not increase and when I turn it again it increases by 5 or 6 or 15. In many instances the wheel just increases the number by many instead of precisely (like when your adjusting a sample) I've been using the up and own arrows and thats fine but I'd like to have the wheel working again.
Y'all have any thoughts on what might be the problem? I'd greatly appreciate your insights...................................

You think its just the wheel itself or something going on inside the unit?

It is most likely the wheel. It goes to an microprocessor that interprets this voltage. I believe this microprocessor also monitors the drum pads. I think it is a good chance the rotary encoder (wheel) is the problem. Do you plan on fixing this yourself?

Yeah if its easy enough. Looks like I'll try and cop a new wheel. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a quick primer on how to do this.

I don't think it is that involved. Its only 3 wires and it may be on a connector so you may not even have to solder anything. Are you familiar with opening the MPC?

Nope.....Have not had the opportunity yet but I guess I'm gonna have
to in order to fix this problem. Would appreciate any feedback from folks on this board who have the experience of doing this. Thanks

I have to put in a new backlight so i will look under the hood. Maybe I will even post some pics of what I find. I have a MPC60II but I think the internals are the same.

How much are new wheels anyway??

You'll have to call VST but to give you a ballpark figure the slide for the Hi Hat Decay was around $11.00 for the whole assembly knob and all. I would expect the data wheel to be comparible in price.

i bought a new datawheel knob, that was 20 bucks, but thats just the cap..
to replace the actual wheel/gadget im thinkin its gonna be at least 60..

Just for the heck of it I snapped a pic of the knob from the inside while I was installing a new backlight. If they sell the whole assembly with the wires this will be a easy fix. If not you will have to desolder the wires and solder them to the new part. Should not be a big deal.
