So when is someone going to post the eprom images of these?

I mean since there is no "legit" way to buy it, then why should the eBay sellers get to command the prices they do for basically just hex editing an eprom image to put your name in it, and then charge you 80-120 for it?

yeah especially now that all the mpc collector/resellers have worthless mpcs seeing that pirated chips ruined the exclusive market.

Yeah man, I believe the only people holding on to the eprom images are the same ones selling it to other people.

Wasn't the original like 250-300 bucks?

Why do you want everythink gifted to you or buy it for next to nothing?

Wanna buy my SP1200? Ohh, not for more than 100 bucks, it's not worth more you say? Oh well... ;)

One could asked him self "how can it be that only the 60/3000 has to be paid for",.,

Maybe I am missing some samplers, but most of the original o.s is free, like for instance the S1000,,

I own a 60 and got vailixi on it, and personally I think its great. I thought it wasn't expensive, 4x eproms incl burning and testing and shipping..

I've said this before here on the forum that these old samplers aren't getting any support from the professional industry (akai) anymore. And there I am a big supporter of the small engineer that produces some kind of gadged for these machines that gives it a bit of an upgrade like an screen or card reader..
Also the o.s needs to be freeware in my opinion. Leaves the burning up to yours self.
The Atari community is also keeping there own pants up with there old machines with no support from Atari,., so should we, if people want these to be kept in use.

Peace

well my take is... (me running os 2.12 on my 60) if it weren't for the ebay pirates... there would be 0 availability of these after market OSs unless you purchased a machine with them installed at an inflated price... sure, it's cool to pay the value of the OS on top of the machine... but when rohan went MIA... people were all of a sudden trying to get 500 dollars more than they were before. We can say supply and demand, sure... but having to buy a second 3k instead of just the OS was the cause of people trying to recoup that money.

IE: supply went up, scalpers went down.

and there is no thing here about supporting an indie small time product manufacturer... the dude went missing years ago and people i think still didn't get their refunds.

Why pay some third-party seller who did nothing more than pirate the software? They have no right to sell it anyhow, and the thought of paying $100 to some IP thief is galling

If it's a matter of exclusivity, well that ship has sailed a long time ago.

Power to the people....free the OS

yeah for sure.. i agree with that (even from a preservation standpoint) however I guess the cost of chips, burning them, paying ebay, taking the time.. etc) the 100 dollar price tag is not much of a mark up... you are basically getting the OS for free and paying for someone who has the knowledge and gear to burn EPROMs for that service.

@jibber you completely missed the point but that's cool, thanks for your input. :WTF:

@dave_mode is it a matter of not wanting other people to be apart of the cool kids club or are you trolling?

@mr_debauch $5 for 4 blank eproms of that size. It takes 5 minutes to burn all 4 with any USB powered eprom burner. So I disagree that the price they're scalping is appropriate. I can unsderstand a markup if you are the actual coder, but not some idiot with an eprom burner.

@BoyOfVirtue I agree with you man but it seems that the general consensus so far is half are for it and half limp wrist chai late drinkers.

yeah okay i didn't know blanks were that cheap... but the person i know who got an old eprom burner (parallel) it was around 70 bucks for that.. either way... you are paying a few bucks for someone who is willing to do all the work (except installation) ... should the images be available as well? of course because that is real preservation. paying 90 or 100 bucks (or however much it costs now) is far from paying 500 more than normal... the pirates are scalping for way cheaper is my point..

My point is: You complain they want 80-120 bucks for it. What is so horrible about that price? Someone bought the kit they need to copy the chips, copies them, packs them, runs to the post office and sends them to you. What do you think how much time they spend doing that? 1 hour? So really, in my opinion not a crazy price. It's adequate. Or how much should they charge you for their time? 20 bucks... or maybe they should feel humbled that they can send you the stuff and give it to you for free plus a complimentary BJ?

I see you all the time posting how shit is to expensive.

In my opinion, it's a sickness of the modern society, to want everything NOW and for next to NOTHING. Someday this will backfire (it does already).

Don't be such a cheapskate all the time is what i'm trying to suggest.

Peace.

@MPC-Tutor all that you will need is an eprom burner to read and write the images. It only gets a bit more complicated when the person burning the images attempts to protect it by certain fuse settings to prevent others from getting a clean read - however that protection can be circumvented as well as long as you know what you're doing.

@jibber - Thanks again for your valued input although your attempt to label me as a cheapskate is unfortunate and misunderstood. Simply put - if it was not clear to you already - I see no real value nor purpose in purchasing stolen data from a bootlegger.
