Trying to figure out why my LE sounds better than my regular one.
Both have the same ram & CF card reader.
Anybody else notice this?

What do you mean better?
I have both and I think they sound the same.

I don't know, the regular MPC 3000 is a bit older than the LE, so maybe some caps are almost dead. I don't think so, but this would be one possibilty. I think the circuits/schematics are exactly the same in the two units.
But I would really like to hear some samples, to A/B the two.

i agree with this. i bet one machine was used more then the other one and the caps are more degraded

Humm thats weird because the LE case has more wear like it was used more then the beige one.

Can old caps have an effect on the sound?
What about different era components?

I know when people talk about old synth like Mini Moogs or 303's they say the same ones can sound different.

Sorry not able to post any clips.

maybe one was used more and also taken care of, kept in better condition, or stored better. and the other one the person had no pride of ownership so to speak. who knows the history its hard to say for sure what happened.

it will distort the sound

most electrolytic capacitors will sound the same i think, but maybe i'm wrong. capacitors aren't all rated for the same amount of hours and temperatures. if you can choose which caps you get to use i would say panasonic fm / fc.

i don't know a whole lot about 303's. but i know for mini moog model d's they have 3 different oscillator board revisions as they produced the machine. i'm not exactly sure how the circuitry is different in the three mini moog model d osc boards perhaps someone else can say something in regards to that.

that really is a pity
