MPC 3000/60 Price flip

so I started cruising ebay to snag a MPC 60... a little shocked to find that they are now in the 1200-2000 range (some as high as 3000) up from 500-1000 a couple years ago...

around the same time those were like 500 a maxed out mpc 3000 was around $3000

now they are regularly going for under 1200!!!!

not that I am complaining but what gives... the 3k is the holy grail of MPCs... for my entire time producing they have been the most expensive and on the top of my "maybe one day when I am rich" list...


now they are less than a beat up 60... All I can assume is there is a resurgence in a genre that I am unaware of driving up the prices... Ive always thought the move was to get a 3000 for its stereo sampling and build quality ect... and if you wanted the dope 12bit drums you could put a 950 inline for around 300 bucks... now a 60 is more money than that combo...


any insight?

If you're looking for a better deal, maybe try Craigslist. Prices are on the rise everywhere. I'm not sure what's driving the prices up, but an SP-1200 goes for about 4-5 grand, so does the TR-808 & 909..

As far as the holly grail thing, some people might feel the 60 is the holy grail. Apples & Oranges

Oh I think that 1200 for the mpc 3000 is a killer deal

agree with your apples and oranges 100% . I guess I should have rephrased a little bit there and asked "does anyone know why the price of the 60 is skyrocketing... while the 3000 is falling"

I would have expected both units to be more expensive right now... I am just surprised that the 3000 is such a deal!

3ks are on the rise too. Back in like 07-08 they were an absolute steal, I used to see them routinely going in the 500 area. Now that nostalgia has kicked in & people are looking for something different than what everybody else got, prices are on the rise again.

It's the natural cycle of things. I'm sure both the 60 & 3000 will fall back to reasonable prices in the next couple years. Then they'll probably start floating back up to collector-level prices for all of the units. Just my guess anyway, happens like this a lot with vintage synths as well.

i can't wait until they all start breaking and we get lots of part machines for pennies

That's what I'm talking about. I'd get 2 broken 3000's for $200 a piece and then Frankenstein 'em to make 1 good 3000.
