So, I went to grab some new backlights for my 60s from a guy in OC. He also had some random disk drives as well. One of the drives was labeled "good Akai S-1000". I grabbed it for 5 bucks (not knowing if it would work). Slapped it in my drive-less 60, and it's working. I've formatted, loaded & saved. So everything is A ok.

Alps DEP723FO3A

Crazy thing is I just spent 30 bucks last night on eBay for a gotek.

well you are set up then... 5 bucks for a confirmed working s-1000 drive is already a great legit price (not inflated)

He wanted 10...I haggled!!!

Was it already general knowledge that a S-1000 floppy drive can be used in a 60?

it is always worth the confirmation though... and on top of it.. it is possible that certain machines have aftermarket parts (or drives that were second hand from somewhere else) that perhaps work on one machine but not on others... so there could be a shared compatibility but not 100% with all devices.. these threads can help especially when model numbers are included.

*update*

Not sure what's going on, but I format disk, them sample some drums etc..then save. When I turn off machine..then turn on and load samples, I get the "this disk is damaged screen". It's done it 3 times in a row with 3 different disks. Any thoughts?

Found the issue.

Since I'm running ver 2 software, I have to put tape over the 2nd hole on HD disks before formatting.

Works now!!!

OH... well will say, you need to do that on version 2.12 as well... not sure about 3 and above but it is possible

Not sure what the issue is, but this S-1000 disk drive is still giving me problems. It even ruined a double density disk (with one hole). Its damaging files on the disks & damaging disks. Could it be because im running ver 2.14? i could swap into the other mpc and see if it does it. any thoughts??

Ok, I swapped this drive into my other 60 running 3.15 os & everything seems fine so far. Looks like the issue was the 2.14 OS. The drive is working great on 3.15. No issues.
