Program file up in smoke while playing a sequence, mpc3000

Hey y'all,

Couldn't find anything on this while searching the forum so:

Yesterday a weird thing went down. I was rocking a drum groove on my 3000 while messing around with a synth connected with midi. Suddenly the mpc went quiet. It took me a while to understand what happened: all sounds were still in the machine, and the seq was intact as well, BUT the pgm file had just went up in smoke! No sounds were assigned to any pads, all settings gone etc.

Have anyone else experienced this?? During all my years with 2000xl/60/3000 this had never happened before. Any suggestions on how to prevent it prom happening again?

hmmm, in the first moment it sounds like the particular memory, where the PGM sits, were accidently erased. Normally such a failure would crash a running MPC.

First thing i would do is to check if this behaviour is repeatible. If so, check components like RAM, Buffer Memory Battery, CPU Board etc.

It it was a single event, i wouldnt longer bother me with this (no failure in the next two weeks). Keep in mind, we are talking about a 17+ year old Machine. Therefor, If it was a single event, i wouldnt longer bother me with this (no failure in the next two weeks).

Today something maybe even more weird happened. I turned on my synth (that was connected both in and out with midi) and my snare disappeared from the program! Everything else was there. And this actually happened twice. Only the snare (I think pad 6). Any ideas about this??

The weirdness started when I first used my new synth, Korg ms2000. Could this be causing the problems?

Definitely seems like the most likely thing (ms2000 issue) See if you can recreate it with the Korg unplugged, and if not, patch the MIDI through your computer or a device that can monitor and record the MIDI sent between the 2 units. Maybe there is some kind of sysex or bizarre high speed program changes or something coming out of the Korg (?)

Maybe turn off some off the midi input data, don't know if u are wiggling some of the knobs on the korg when this occurs? I had something similar with an octatrack with an octacontrol hooked on to it, just needs an sync signal from the octa, but the midi data was overwhelming for my mpc60 to handel, and it froze up.
Maybe some cc-commands arrent matching between the machines.

Thanks ya'll for the thoughts, I'll try to check it out more. No idea tho how to turn off some of the input data? Would that be done on the synth or on the sampler somehow? I'll mess around with it anyhow, I'll write more here if other problems show up or if I find a solution
