best swing / shuffle setting for 90s hiphop beats

I'm trying to find out how the swing works I feel like my beats sound stiff and awkward

Then I would dust off the ol operators manual and turn to page 43 and read.

First thing I would do is using complete drumbreaks without chopping. Then add additional drumhits and placing/shifting them so they fit to the drumloop. No need for the 'famous' swing option.
Also use different velocity on the drumhits. Groove is not only timing but also dynamics. For example accent the hihat after each snare.
