Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

Hey,

For the past weeks I've read about replacing the old floppy drive with an internally installed SCSI2SD v5.1. I decided to do this for the convenience and to give me some peace of mind.

During the research I have found that there seems to be no comprehensive instructions for this particular install in the MPC3000. The guides I found were either for other machines or did not include all info. A lot of scattered info and answers here and there but not a single all-in-one -type article was found. Regarding the reported compatibility issues with the 3k, I want to make sure to do this by the book. Looking for complete parts list, instructions and possibly photos. Already searched high and low from all kinds of forums, codesrc etc. to no avail.

If there are such instructions, any pointers in finding them would be greatly appreciated. If none exist, then that is the case. I couldn't ask anyone to compile such instructions, but if someone is up for it, I really hope it'd be stickied or added to the 3k FAQ/Bible some day. I see a lot of potential for this to be helpful to others as well considering the aging floppies and drives.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t have the v5.1 of the SCSI2SD but this info should apply as the same to include using the Artmix/Stratos Technolgy's SCSI conversion kit...

Thanks a lot for the reply, I appreciate it! That is a helpful thread and has a lot of useful information.
I guess I must be too cautious with this technical stuff since I need instructions that tell me the triangular block goes to the triangular hole and square goes to a square one.. :hmmm:
I do have a dog in this fight, but would also like to do something for this community that has helped me a lot and collect the information for future purposes.

If you don't want to tear into your MPC and also go a cheaper route, there is an external SCSI2SD unit. It connects to the rear DB25 SCSI port and is powered via SCSI.
