Anyone tried the fatpads on the 3000?

Hi there, just joined the 3000 club, coming from 2500 and mpc live which i still have and use. loving the tone on the 3000 burns the others on midi master clock timing, only thing not in love with is the pads, a bit too sensitive and getting regular double triggering on my hihat playing. i use fat pads on 2500 and live are similar, im thinking of trying the mpcstuff fat pads for the 3000 if anyone has any thoughts before i go ahead.

The MPC-Stuff fat pads on a 3000 are the bomb diggity, off the heezy, and certified DOPE. Get them!

When striking the pad on the MPC 3000, are you using the flat of your finger or the point?

Cheers yep i think i will grab them, i am a finger drummer so i use the meaty parts of the tips of fingers same as a piano player would, thumbs also, i have 2500 and live and have tuned them perfectly to my playing but the 3000 pads are softer and squishier and much more sensitive, to get nice subtle rools with some dynamics i need to be able to tune the pad sensitivity and if the is no digital control of this adjusting the pads should give me enough options with or without corx etc.

When was the last time you've changed the pad sensors? Also, does it happen at random on one pad or does it happen on every pad?

The friend i bought it off had recently changed the pad sensors to new ones, its all in very good condition, im finding the pad i use for the hi hat is double trigger the most partly due to my playing of using alternating fingers on the main hat pad. it feels like something fat pads without the corx would fix or maybe one layer of corx but need them a tiny bit less sensitive so i can lay into the drums a bit more i think is all

Just sounds like you have to adjust your playing technique. Is the double trigger happening at a low velocity strike?

i will go with some fattys as thats what im used to for drumming, mostly getting doubles on the one pad, if i do hats on a different pad its somewhat better tho maybe just due to the space difference. i use other mpcs live (mpc live)and wanna leave the 3000 at home for wrting on so i dont really want to adjust my playing as it works on everything else, im finding im getting full level on my lightest drumming on the 3000, the pad membrane maybe needing a slight adjustment, sometimes pulling apart and putting back together gets rid of pad sensitivity probelms

Yeah, that's not suppose to happen, at the lightest touch. I think that's why on the MPC 4000, they put the 4 screws around the pads, to keep the pad and membrane from developing a gap. Can't wait for Akai to make 5d pads, then I know my technique will adjust. You try the Linnstrument yet?

Yep it may just need an adjustment see how it goes, can always external control from the live or something for time being, will work it out gradually, cheers, nope that thing loos interesting

When you get the chance, try one. The square take a little time to adjust too, however Roger Linn's controller eliminates double trigger issues. While making allowing ghost notes to flourish if you chose. I hope the Fat Pad's remedy your situation.

@Caustic Yoda... open up your 3000 and see if there is an 'c' shaped metal bracket directly under the pads.
In the picture, it's next to the floppy ribbon cable with felt on the top of it.


That 'c' bracket supports the middle of the metal plate that pad sensor sheet that sits on. My 3000LE didn't have this bracket so I did get double triggers when hitting the pads. The fat pads did help (plus looks bad ass) but I did have to learn not to pound on the pads to stop the double trigger.

ah interesting, i will have to open it up and inspect sometime, just tried external midi control on it from the mpclive and 2500 and both of those pads control it super nice, i will just order some fat pads cuz thats what im used to and could never really drum on any of the stock pads on 2500 properly, i am thinking the 3000s pads should be better than the others but maybe just not what im used to but will know more when i open it up and get some fat pads, cheers Juke

The rubber pads on the MPC 3000 and MPC 2500 are inter-changeable.
