fustrating s900 interface!

i am still slow at using this s900, i am not flowin on it nearly as quick as i do on the mpc.. fustrating!!

Man, I could have told you that from the go!.

Why do people waste time with these old dinosaurs. They eat up serious creative time trying to record and map in them and the soft stuff like Kontakt isn't just more powerful, its got better filters and can be programmed infinitely faster. I sold my S950s a while ago now because they aren't worth the effort any more and I can get Kontakt to sound pretty much the same with tweaking.

I question why people own this sort of gear. Is it because it has cult status at the expense of practicality?. The MPC is totally different. You can record and map to the pads in a few minutes, something that you just can't do on old rack samplers or modern non-grooveboxes. So often I see questions from people on forums asking wether they should get this or that piece of gear and it almost seems like they don't actually give a shit about the music. These are tools for a job and you want the tool that lets you do what you want with the least amount of aggro.

Did you "flow" on your MPC at breakneck speed when you first got it??? seriously, the s900 is a piece of cake man...

YEA....

the manual is less than a hundred pages, use it....

itll take you a little while, but once you get it itll be cake for you....

i got a couple s950s and i love them....

just concentrate on these two menus:

thats where most of the "work" comes in...

co-sign. gear hit its stride with the MPC3000/2000 era....

the other side of the spectrum is the 4000 which is overly complicated.

s950 is a dope machine once you get it down...

it is a bit limited yes, but i love the sound...

I don't think it is. On the contrary, I've never worked with anything more intutive before, software and hardware included. Only the MPC60 comes close.

what exactly is the tweaking you'd need to do to a "kontakt" beat to get the same sound as an mpc60 or 3000?

filtering, distortion, bitcrushing. there is many diff ways to shape samples to make "grimy" sounding samples. but u can do it with alot of samplers. U dont need Kontakt, i can get grimy results if i sample with wavelab. its all bout how u shape and process the sound after u sample it. The 12 bit samplers do give "character" to samples, but if u work at it u can get thouse results in any device.
