I'm looking to upgrade the floppy drive on an MPC-3000 w/ Vailixi. Are USB floppy emulators really that much of a hassle? I've never really messed with one, my 2KXL has a card reader and it works great, but it looks like floppy emulators are half the cost of a card reader? These are what I'm looking at:

Do I need to install firmware or anything special to use one of these?:

Thanks for your thoughts!

There is no logical reason to choose a floppy emulator over a scsi card reader for the mpc 3000 or any scsi capable sampler.

I suggest you do the search on here as there are several upon several threads about this to help you along with scsi and the mpc 3000.

The reverb link to the bignoise card reader is a rip off and is based upon the open source design of the scsi2sd, so much so that it uses the same firmware. You'd literally be paying more because they use a different mounting bracket and screen printed the top metal plate on it which serves no real operable purpose other than for prettier online pictures.

I'd rather support the actual designer and purchase an original direct from interialcomputing than pay 3 times the cost the cost from someone else. Plus the designer responds to emails and regularly updates the firmware on the scsi2sd which can easily be updated by connecting a usb cable.

Again, try to do the minimum and read a bit on here as all of your questions related to this are answered.

Good luck.

No logical reason except a few hundred dollars difference! The emulator is significantly cheaper
