MPC3000 file compression, freeze crash

Hi there, been on the 3k for a good few months now and loving it but i do have one problem thats happened a few times now. the file compression option ads a nice grain to the file but a few times the machine has frozen and not recovered when selecting this option, anyone else had problems with this one, would love to use it safely

Is this akin to the S950 where you can reduce the sample rate until it locks up?

i think its designed to halve the file size/ pitch it up an octave, theres no options to fine tune it that i can see
