How do I check MPC60 sample time?

A friend found an MPC 60 near him. The person who has it...is not the original owner and is just selling it. He was told it has the 3000 upgrade. I want to be able to explain to him step by step (assume he has NO working knowledge of the MPC) to see if it has the memory upgrgade.

I need to explain to him over the phone how to check the sample time, and I dont have a 60 here with me. I cannot remember off the top of my head. Can someone tell me in baby steps what I need to tell him? I need to call this guy today asap to have him check this.

There are 2 screws under the plastic sides on each side. Unscrew them, lift the top and have a look if there is memory expansion installed.

Or:
- turn the MPC 60, wait to boot up
- press SOUNDS button
- press 1 button (sample new sound)
- press SOFT KEY 1 (Proceed)
Here depends of the operating system version you can set length to 5 sec or 13 sec or 26 sec.
If time is limited to 5 seconds you need to:
- press SOFT KEY 2 (it will record 5 second sample)
- press SOUNDS again
- press 1
- in Drum section use your data wheel to change from SNR1 to SNR2
- press SOFT KEY 1
- press SOFT KEY 2 to record another 5 seconds
- hit SOUNDS button again
- press 1
- from SNR2 change to BASS
- hit SOFT KEY 1
- if screen will show the length 3 sec it means there is no memory expansion. If it is 5 seconds it must be 26 sec sampling time.

All he needs to do is turn it on and note on the startup screen what OS version is installed.

If he has 3.10 then yeah he has the "MPC 3000 upgrade"

Depending on the cost, he should just buy the thing as is. Replacing the OS ROM chips are inexpensive and there are several people selling newly minted MPC 60 memory kits as well.
