I Need Help!!!

I just got an MPC3000 & it won't read any of the floppy discs I made on the 2000...an error screen comes up saying that the OS the sequences were made on is newer, but on the 2000 the OS is 1.72 & on the 3000 its 3.1...I know there's gotta be a way to get this MPC to read these files or I'm screwed...I have over 200 beats made on the 2000!!!

to my knowledge, and I'm no expert like MPC3000 also I DO NOT OWN A MPC3000 as you can see from my gearlist, there is no such thing as forward compatibility. Meaning there is no way an older machine can read something from a newer machine unless they operate on similar systems like the 2000 and 2000XL. You do have a couple of options though. The easiest thing would be to DL a copy of MPC Editor (if you're using a PC) and load the MPC 2000 floppies on the PC re-create them on this program and export them out as a MPC3000 pgm. Option 2 would be to resample them. The O.S. for these two are totally different so 1.72 to 3.1 is irrelevent. That's like thinking the 3000 is newer because it is a bigger number than 2000 right? Whatever the case good luck and I'm sure someone else will be able to assist you.

MPC3000 machines don't load files created on MPC2000/2000XL models.

You're not screwed but you will need to take some time out in converting the sequences from your MPC2000/2000XL machine to run on an MPC3000.

Do you still have your MPC2000/2000XL ?

actually i made all the beats on a friends 2000, but he lives close by so it is accessible...what do you suggest?

Re-recording the sequences one at a time from the MIDI out of one to another. ( will take ages and you may need to re-edit a few bits and pieces timing wise ).

Or.

Re-saving the sequences from your friends MPC2000 as MIDI files and then importing those into the MPC3000.

Note that in the latter case the MIDI files don't contain "MPC SPECIFIC" sequence data like the NV-Slider and such.

I was afraid of that! Damnit everyone I talked to said that the files were compatible so now I'm stuck like Chuck. I just spent all of this loot on an MPC & now it'll take for ever to be able to work on the beats that I already have...Bummer.

Just use this exercise as a lesson in:

a) not taking advice from people who don't know what they're talking about.
b) becoming familiar with your new MPC3000.
c) re-visiting all your beat creation work again with a view to doing it all even better this time around.
