Saving over Multiple Disks

Hi All,

After upgrading my mpc 60 and S950’s ram I came to realise that 750kb is the max that can be stored per floppy despite have the extra ram and you are prompted to use an additional disk to save the data onto.

My question is: What is the best method to maintaining future back ups on the same disks as to avoid overwriting previous versions on the disks.

E.g
1 disk for samples and 2nd disk for project data and arrangements?

Curious to how the community goes about this.
Currently I have been saving onto new floppies if I have added more sounds as the track has progressed otherwise it starts to get confusing.
I would not assume that the system would automatically know other than not saving samples in the disk function.

I wouldn't even bother with multi-disks and would upgrade to a cardreader with scsi. Internal. If you have the scsi option in your 60 you can use an adapter and fit the ZuluScsi inside instead of the old floppy drive.

I don’t have the scsi upgrade installed and planned to stick with the simplicity of floppies for now.
I have invested enough already into this unit. Linn OS/new screen and memory.
In theory wouldn’t an emulator suffer from the same issue as it would read 750kb partitions?

The emulator will exactly what it should: Emulate. So if you need two disks physical, you still need two images to save. For me this is very unpractical and all my units have cardreaders. Even the SP where no multi disk is needed bc ram is so tiny.

So a card reader will bypass that limit of 750kb and treats the 1.5mb as one whole?

No because the format itself on the 60 is still limiting it to 720k per disk, even with an emulator, the 60 will still format a virtual image to 720k. The advantage to the emulator as WASK mentioned, is to not be limited to the amount of physical disks you are using, as you're just using a thumb drive.

Truly though, save some money and get the SCSI upgrade.
