I donno homey- that Golden Child don't sound a whole lot different from Premo - it sounds like you're trying too hard to sound like Premo rather than coming with your own style - Stay away from the Premoesque drum patterns and drum samples - like that steady ass 8th note hi-hat pattern - try adding more groove - The MPC60 will be a major challenge for you-
The problem with hiphop these days is computers - I think that kats pay less attention to the sound and more on the composition which is basically all you can worry bout when you have infinite sample time and are using traded drum sounds (.wav) and mp3 samples and digital synth sounds - Shit is sooo contrived.
The MPC-60 commands attention to details, like where you truncate your samples and how they loop and record them into your sampler. You forcibly pay more attention to filtering sounds and consider your remaining sample time....and a whole slew of other regards. For instance, you might find yourself to be more limited but it will encourage you to be that much more creative. It pulls the creativity from your soul. Look at Premo - Most of his beats are just loops and slamming drums with ill groovy patterns - although I must say i fancy his earlier works - mostly 92-95 - After that he kept the same drum patterns and drum sounds - listen to the difference on Hard to Earn. He came with some really innovative shit. Looping the basslines off beat and shit....he's a nut.
