computer recording w/ 60 II

Hey,

Right now all I have is a four track cassette recorder for recording.
I would like to get something that expands my capabilities/quality of recording. I'm thinking about either going with computer software, probably cubase for now and then protools in the near future, or possibly going with a multitrack workstation recorder.

I have two questions.
1) Computer software (protools, etc.) + Computer (which I don't have) or multitrack workstation (akai dps24, etc.) ?
2) If i bought a computer and started with Cubase SE, how would I record into the computer (via midi, or with the 8 outs)? ... And, would I need any additional hardware to do this?

you'll need a multi input soundcard, the more inputs the better.

After that you'll want a mixer, and other stuff, so perhaps a recorder would be better if you want a single solution.

I have a Yamaha AW4816 and it's dope because in the future I can use it as an interface for protools, but for now it's super clean digi recording and filters for the 60

I would suggest an Akai DPS12 or DPS16. They can be found 2nd hand for a fraction of the cost of a computer. That way you do not have to worry about buying expensive hardware and software for the computer since it has it all built in.

Being used to a multitrack recorder alreader, you will be using the DPS in no time.

DPS16 or DPS24 trust me!!
