Question About Sequence Recording on the MPC 3000

I presently have a 2000XL but I am interested in the 3000, isnt everyone?

Quick question though. On the 2XL you can switch tracks (and whether it is a drum track or midi track) while recording/overdubbing. Can you do this on the 3000? Or do you have to stop the sequence to switch to another track to record onto?

For instance (using the 2xl) I will program my snares on track one on a 2 bar pattern

While that is playing I will then switch to track two and program my kicks, all the while not pressing stop at all.


I love doin it this way because there is no stoppoing the groove and its better for improv work....

Now a quick question based on your answer. On the 2XL the timing correct is on the main screen, so not only can you switch tracks while overdubbing, you can also change your TC.

On the 3000 the TC is on another screen that you have to access with a button ( I believe from looking at the manual online). Can you also switch your TC while overdubbing without having to stop the sequence?

Just read over the manual again I think I'll answer my own question.

You can not change the timing while playing......damn.

Something that wasnt clear was if you can have different TCs on each track for instance track2 Snares 1/16 track3 Hats 1/16(3).

Please help clairify.

No you can't change the TC while in play, in play the TC button is the note repeat button.

You can have different TC values separate tracks, and on the same track as well, just set the TC before recording.

ANother thing that I am not sure is different is you can change the track type while in play, or change a midi channel while playing.

You can change track type Drum/Midi and midi channel while in play on the XL as well....

I guess my next question is...do the TC values on the 3000 or 60 with 3.10 (same thing I am assuming) stick with the track? This is one thing the 2000 does not do. For instance if TC is 1/16 for track 2 and you switch the track to track 3 and make TC 1/32 and then switch back to track 2, the TC on track 2 will now be 1/32 instead of the 1/16 it was orginally at.

This does not effect TC of the track but it does effect all incoming notes recorded.

nope, it doesn't stick with the track, it actually doesn't make sense to do so.

I personally feel it would be better to stick with the track so that you know what each track's original TC was. When you have multiple drum/perc tracks with multiple TCs it is possible to loose track of your root TC.

Maybe its just me.

This feature would defenitely be at the top of my wishlist for future updates of valixi OS!
Being able to change the note repeat value (16ths, 8ths etc.) while in play mode or at least have some indication of what note value is current on the main screen. There is no way of knowing that unless you stop the sequencer and enter Timing correct.
Is this doable Rohan?
Maybe assigning some keys to change the note repeat value while in playback?
