Please HELP!!! My MPC3000 will not boot up

My 3000 will not boot up.When I turn the power on, all the lights come on and stay on.My display is blank.Has anyone had this problem?Is it dead, or can I fix it?Any help would be great ( I need to make music)

yes, it sounds like the power supply has one of the voltage lines failing. If you know basic tech repair stuff, you should check the fuses make sure they are good, and then the power ribbon connectors, they often have little issues where they need to be resoldered a bit and continuity tested. It could be something else, but that's my guess from your description.

Thanks. Does anyone know a good repair center in the New York/New Jersey area. I'm in Essex County.(I don't want to take it to Triple S, They take waaaaaaay toooooo long).

there's a good tech in east village music in the mower east side, but they might take some time, but usually just a few weeks depending on how much they have there. THe tech only comes in once a week though.

Otherwise you should send it to VST, they are good, but the shipping would be kinda pricey.

Where in the lower east side? Do you have a name or number?

I have two buttons that need replacement/fixing on the 3000 and I was going to go with the regulars (Rougue, Armen) but the lower east side is much more convinient for me.

How is Rougue Music's repair center?Have any on you guys used them?

their techs sometimes try to tell you it will be really expensive, but if you trade it in you will get much less than it's worth, then the tech will repair it and keep it. Go to east village. and if any tech ever says it's really expensive and offers you money for it, take it back and somewhere else.

Rogue is a bit pricey I agree and you have to pay $72 minimum (hours worth of work) no matter what is wrong with the peice of equipment.

For instance, if a key is stuck on a synth and it is as simple as opening it up and getting some gunk out, you will have to pay $72 (minimum) regardless.

I have never had to get anything repaired, and this is my first time doing so. My fear is that it becomes a situation like a broken car. The type of thing where you get it home, what you needed is fixed, and then a week later something else goes "wrong" and you have to bring it back. Typical auto mechanic situation.

I cant say that any one tech that I have met has really gained my trust. I will say that the people at Rogue are very nice though.

Thats why Im pondering working around what needs fixing on my MPC so that I can avoid any future headaches....

Yeah man, he knows his shyt. You gotta pay 30 for diagnostics, then they let you know what it's gonna take, if you let them fix it, the 30 comes off the total cost. if you take it away, they buy a bottle of scotch and party that night for the trouble. Not sure how long it would take them, I'd give them VST's number for parts ordering, cuz that might slow them down, you might be better off ordering the parts yourself, but that's if you don't like what they say it will take. I know I'm going to get the parts faster than they will, so if I know the part I'd give it to them. But you'd have to ask them what parts are needed if they don't have them in stock.

but they should be much quicker than Tripple S.

Have you guys tried DBM pro Audio/Music Service, 320 West 37th St 5th fl (the old D&D studio Building). I have used them for years. Good service and they are a authorized akai service center. I would never take anything to Rogue or Armen to be fixed because they sell used equipment. Its in their best interest to bend you over. Take your stuff to a pure repair service center. Armen's cool and has always been straight up with me (Rogue as well).

I have gotten parts from DBM Pro, they seemed a little high but they had what I needed.

I know the rogue techs can be shady, saying the fix will be expensive then offering you some money for the unit. Then the tech fixes it cheaply and takes it home or resells it.

They prey on ignorance.
