MPC 3k & Formatting & partitioning ZIPSs

I know this has been asked hellllllllla times in the past, but I just need some clarification. I have a Dual 2ghz PowerMac G5 with an external USB ZIP drive. Can someone tell me how I go about formatting the ZIP for use with the MPC 3000? Elmacaco gave me a TON of info about this, but it still doesn't seem to be working.

Here's the deal, I have 4 100MB zip carts, and I want the MPC to be able to format and partition the carts. When I use the MPC Editor from midicase, it only creates a single 29MB partition, and even then, the MPC STILL won't format it. It gives the famous "Hard Disk Failure" error message. I'd like to be able to use 5 20MB partitions.

First of all, I wanna get this right....are you using a Mac or PC?
MPC Editor is for PCs.

I use MPCPGM Maker for my Mac and MPC3000.
Use it almost everyday.

First, I format Zips via the MPC.
Not the Mac.
...or I buy PC formatted Zip disks.

Also, all you are gonna get i the first partition of 25-29 MBs.
That's it.
Long explanation, but suffice it to say, you can't get the whole 100 MBs.

Right on. Just to clarify, I have a Mac and a PC. I was usin the MPC Editor on the PC to format the zips, then use MPCPGMaker on the Mac to make my kit. Then I save the .pgm and .snd files to the zip and finally... load them on the MP. I found a previous post a few days ago that actually helped me out.

Basically, you just load OS 3.14 via floppy and format the zip using the "Soft Format" option. At that point, you get to choose how you wanna partition the zip. Thanks for gettin back.

I wanted to add something that I just came across regarding formatting/partitioning on the MPC3k. I'm usin OS 3.11 with an external ZIP250 and a 100mb ZIP cart:

I attempted to format the ZIP in the regular fashion; pressed the DISK key, then selected option 9 and finally, option 3. I chose AUTO for the SCSI id and hit Format Now. I got the usual "Hard disk failure...." message. At that point, I hit SOFT KEY 2 by mistake and... BAM I was at the partitioning screen!! I selected partitons A - D, at 25mb's each, and the shyt worked. I didn't think it was true, so I ran the same test 4 more times after that and it worked. This may or may not have been posted before, if so, my bad.

Correction: After the hard disk failure message, hit exit, start the process over again, but hit soft key 2 when you get to the <Format Now> screen. That will take you straight to the partitioning screen.

That's bugged out I gotta see if the 60 does it too.

It's the basis of what was used to impliment the fast/soft format screen in 3.14 ...

Although 3.14 contains some other stuff under the hood to reset the disk system correctly.

Hey Rohan I remembered something that might be good too look into.

In the sound edit screen, if you delete all sound with the delete before soft start or after soft end, the sone settings stay at whatever they were on the 60, then if you have a sound in the temp memory and hit paste, the thing will just keep thinking. I only did it once, but now I remember what it was.

Not sure if the 3000 will do the same thing or not, but it is a bug, the zone settings should get zeroed if the sample gets zeroed.

I think we talked this one over once before.

Don't think from memory that the 3000 had the "deep thought / no answer" problem.

Not in front of it now ... will check over the weekend.
