The MPC60 and SP-1200 "sound"

Well this past week I went to a vintae music shop, and got to play around with the 60 and SP-1200.I was BLOWN away by the sound of both.It's something that can't be acheived with my current setup.Bitcrushing plugins and lowering sample rates only **** up the sound I think.

NOW...

Both units go for about 750-1000$ , and have unneccesary features I do not need.I just want the sound.

I've heard the Akai S950 is the MPC60 without the sequencer and pads-just the sampler.Is this true?Same sampling engine, circuitry, and A/D D/A converters?I heard Roger Linn made the MPC 60 so it added high frequency going in but detracted high frequency going out, so it could have its own sound ,not like the Akai S950.Is this true?How would this make the sound different when its eseentially doing nothing?

Are there any e-mu units with the sound of the sp-1200?

The 900 is what the 60 was based on, but the 950 is about the same cash so go for that.

What are you sequencing with?

ive done some research on this same topic. i have a 3000 and a xl as well access to a 60 2000 . my boy with the 2000 wanted a more classic sound like the 60. the 900/950 are classic samplers but roger linn did alter the sound of the of the 60. and sp's are just bananas. id say just save up and get a sp thats what my boy with the 2000 is doin. id still say a s900 or s950 would be a good investment. only way id cop it would be for a bangin price tho...

the s950s are goin for 75$, but there power is **** up and needs to be replaced, but my cousin can easily fix that.So the s950s are better than the s900s?

Emax rack sampler it's supposed to have the sound of the sp1200 but it's different as the s900 vs mpc 60... In the past posts in this forum, they were talking (writing) about it. www.emulatorarchive.com have the manuals and extra info of sp12,sp12turbo, sp1200, emax, emax se ... etc.
