power down screen trick?

yo, a friend of mine said on the 2kxl you can power down the screen while leaving your machine on for long periods of time by using the shift button and turning the contrast knob all the way down. the unti will remain powered, but it will save backlight life.

is there a way to do this on the 60 (obviously we don't have the shift button)? it sure would help with these already diminished backlights!

it's called a contrast control, I don't think it helps save backlight life, I think only the 3000 has the push pull contrast knob that shuts off power to the backlight. I might retrofit a push pull contrast knob for the 60, I'll have to have a look inside again, but it is certainly possible.

I leave my 60 on for weeks at a time....Would def love to save it a little grief!!!

OK, never leave your 60 on overnight. Always shut down your equipment, every night. heat is the number one enemy of electronics, it brings down more gear than anything, your 60 will last longer if you shut it down. Just save motherfoker, you got the scsi, it's not like it's hard!

Hmm, maybe I'll start a saving techniques section in the FAQ, I'll post how I save, how I partition my zips, and then invite other cats to say how they organize, what SCSI devices they use for storage, it would be interesting because there are many ways of doing it, and seeing how others do it might help me improve my technique.

Easiest way to prolong you're 60's life, save your work, shut down when you won't be using it for over an hour. Easier said than done, but true.
