Mac User Newbie W/ MPC 60II: Wav Conversion? Set Up?

Hi, just got an MPC60 II with0 O.S. 2 all stock stuff in it no upgrades. I wont be able to afford the upgrades for sometime. My problem is I have an MPC2000 O.S. 1.74 (Maxed out), I sample and use wavs all the time. I know from using the search function here that the 60 cant use wavs. I know that you must somehow convert them. I dont own a PC. I have a Mac ibook OSX. So all the PC apps are foreign to me.
1. How can to covert wavs to use on MPC 60II for Mac Users?
2. I thought surely one could convert wavs to snd on the MPC2000 am I correct?
3. Is it possible to transmit Samples over closed loop midi cables from MPC60II to MPC2000 and vice cersa?
4. Any advice you can give to newbie 60 user, I bought 60 to expand my knowledge on sampling and to give my sound and studio more depth. Also for inspiration (allways wanted one) and I planing to use the MPC60 for drum sampling and and 2000 for voc samples and various strings and efx/pads sampling. I plan on syncing the 60 to the 2000. Is this a efficent way to use the 60 in this type of set up?
I own Reason and Ableton Live just tired of trying to figure all that out and wnat to get back to the roots. Hands on hardware!

OK, First off, there is no way to load wavs from disk into the 60 with the Old OS, you need OS 3.10 for software like MPC PGM maker to export 3000 SND files which the upgraded 60 can convert to native 60 files.

IOt also cannot load MPC2000SND files, so that's out.

What you are left with is midi sample dump, which takes a while, but with short sounds should be ok, an audio editor like peak should handle it, but Ive never done it on mac, so look around see what supports it.

or of course, you could just sample audio from your computer, experiement with it.

If you really want to give your sound more depth and get into the roots, then use a turntable and sample right into the 60, it was designed for it and gives you more flexibility than just exporting wavs, although exporting is a great added convinience, you should try both and see what you prefer.

Now, seriously, you should get OS 3.10, contact route 66 see if they still have them for $120, if you're from europe the euro makes that real cheap, and it turns it into a totally different machine, much more than you can imagine, it is very much worth it, you do not know what you are missing out on until you get it, and it is just nuts when you do, it;s a 12 bit sampler sequencer with an OS finished in 1997, probably one of the best OS's ever written (like the 3000).

Also, thank you for using the search function. And click on the MPC 60 faq at the top of this section, there is a lot of information there that can help you, including route 66's website (get the upgrade!! Trust us!!)

Also, what OS does your machine say when you turn it on?

MPC60II with OS 2 point what ? 2.XX ?

http://www.mpc3000.com/converter.htm a MAC AIFF <> MPC SND convertor. Not sure if it works with V2.XX MPC SND files or not. Try it.

An MPC2000 will load WAV files and by default save them as MPC SND files. The resultant SND files though will not load on an MPC60 as said files will be of an incompatible (newer) version type.

Yes ...
If your MPC60 has V2.XX of the OS then it will still have sample dump capability. If the MPC2000 has sample dump capability then MPC2000 <> MPC60 will not be a problem. If you have a good audio editor on your MAC that supports sample dump then MPC60 <> COMPUTER shouldn't be a problem either.

For those who wanted to know, I noticed most of the post were for PC users NOT MAC thats whay i asked my question. I am extremley greatful to you all on here. I have both MPC60II and MPC2000 manuals and I have read the MPC manual 2 times so far cover to cover. I am in the process of reading the MPC 60 manual ( man its an easy read explains it all! ) I have had it for a year. I would be an expert by now if it wasnt for Pres Bush ( See Iraq War ) Anyway, you all ahve been so much help and this was my first question.
About the midi dump - yeah I read in the 60 manual wasnt sure if that was still valid because the newer MPC's that followed may not be compatible. NOW i know thanks to yall up in here that its possibe.
I sample from various sources so you bet I will be doing some sampleing from vinyl.
WOW did you say $120 for the upgrade thats a much better price than Forat is charging isnt it! I hope that price is still valid I might can scratch that up. By the way in the States.

They only had a few, Im not sure if they still have any, but If you get the upgrade you should cop them at Rogerlinndesign direct, it's $200 for the OS alone, and that's what you should get first if you can't afford the SCSI as well at $300, $450 if you get both. But the OS itself is the big difference, get it at $200 or 120 if you can.

But get it, Roger Linn's site is my prefered source, but Forat is great too, but I think they have the same prices as Roger right?

i hate to say it but loading .wav files that were converted to 3000 .snd files on the mpc-60 totally defeats the purpose of using a SAMPLING DRUM MACHINE to make music. I can understand the laziness involved and the facilitation of the mpc conversion software but seriously.....not only that the quality of imported sounds from wav to snd really kills the whole feel of the 60. I strongly recommend sampling into your 60 either direct from the source be it vinyl, tape or cd or just sample from your PC directly into it!

yeah, I use the MPC editor for some kits but I mostly sample from vinyl direct, but when you have stuff on your PC, the editor can't be beat. It gives a much cleaner sound, good for cymbals, but it doesn't ruin the 60 vibe, it's just a different frequency. Sampling into the 60 is way to much fun to not do though.

Yo whats up again! Went to Route 66 to check out the OS upgrade for MPC60 and I did not see any mention of the upgrade or price for $120. I mean I would love the upgrade but the price is a bit steep for me at this time. I guess I have to skip a few lunches and sell some stuff on ebay to hussle some cash for the upgrade. Yo! you all are really cool here thanks for all the feedback. I havent been able to find any info on MPC2000 midi dump yet in the manual, so if anyone knows, please kick some knowledge on this.
