got a Roland R8 today for free!!!!

my dad's always been into guitars/pianos/keyboards and stuff. anyway, someone hooked him up with a R8 and he doesn't have any use for it, so he hooked me up for free. illin'!! anyone else mess with one of these..? can't wait to sample the drums into the 60 and get busy!!!

yeah i had one of those..twice in fact...not bad (esp for free) has some fancy features. pads a bit dead feeling but matter of taste i guess.

sounds arent all that imo unless 80's power ballads or dry rock drums are your thing, i used to think it had to be the best because it was rolands latest and most expensive drum machine...took me a minute to realise what i was actually after was a tr808 lol

the electronic card for r8 is so-so but never sounds like the real thing, plus the timing on that unit is GASH, try a straight 16ths hat at high tempo watch it flake out!

Hit you a nice lick especially for free I have one under my bed that my friend has left over my house for about 2yrs now.

THey are cool sounds, they will shine in the 60.

I bought one back in 1998. I loved that thing. Roger Linn actually had a hand in designing the Human Rythm Composer series didn't he???
