question on stereo sampling with the mpc3k and converting

alright folks.. i got 2 questions...
i have been experimenting lately using my mpc3ks sampler by dumping my drums from the asr 10 into the mpc..
holy shit is all i can say...\
now i have a question though..
is there a way on the mpc that when you sample in stereo to go back after you have assigend the sound to a pad, to convert it to mono or to pick the left or right side of the waveform and delete the other???

also what input gain do you feel is the best setting on the 3k??
i have been experimenting and noticed the mid works best for me..
anyone else???

go to delete sound in the sounds menu, pick the stereo sound, it will give you the option to delete one side and convert to mono.

It's a strange place to put the function, but it's in the delete screen. At the bottom, where it says, delete:, you can choose left right or both. I use the low setting, cause i combine left and right chanel in the mixer before sampling mono into the mpc. It gets too distorted when i use higher gain, but when i sample in stereo, mid is good. It woulda been nice to have a combine function instead of just deleting one channel.

I use 'low' as well, I find i can get the biggest sound this way combined with sampling from my source as loud as possible.

low sounds the best for me. when using the mid setting, coming right out of the mixer, it sounds like its really pushing the converters, or the pres and soundng all distorted the higher the input level. especially when sampling from protools, the low setting is the only way it doesnt distort.
i find the samples recorded on the lo setting also sound much smoother when im monitoring at higher volumes. the converters in the 3000 destroy the 2000, its like a slight compression or something, the way sounds come out when played together is ill.
