60/950 combo is...

BANGIN!!!!! Last night I made a beat sampling from the 950 only and now I know what that hype is about. I love the control it gives you over your samples with the filters, bandwidth, and loudness. I didn't even use the pads on the 60 I just controled it with my keyboard. It was a different vibe playing the keys like that for a change, using keygroups. The load time on a disk is crazy fast too. I think this is how Im gonna do things for a while not that I dont like sampling on the 60 its just weak compared to the 950. Things don't move as fast but as they do on the 60 but it's worth the time for that richness. [/i]

Which explains why PREMO and all them classic cats simply sampled to the 950 cus the filtering and sample rate variables......60 needs a filter for real!

It's more likely primo simply started out sampling on the 950 (before using the 60 to sequence, he used the HR16), and he built up his skills manipulating sounds on the 950 (along with a sound library). I don't think it's really muuch better that way, but I do know it's much easier to obtain HIS sound using just the 950.

I don't use the 60, rather a 950 + 3000 in cases when MY sound is similar. Still, I'd wish to be less like premier and still good at the same time, such that using HIS formula can be a limiting approach.

The more I do work though, I'm glad I have the 3000 since it's sound is sooo crisp for when I want to make something that sounds underground but not "old".

i wasn't implying that we should be sounding like premo but if you use similar tactics you'll more than likely have similar feeling with your music. In the same way Pete Rock uses the 1200 and many 1200 users work in the same manner and use similar techniques that were passed down from beatmaker/dj to beatmaker/dj. It's all relative. Just have fun with it.
