Sampling Time Trick

My man uses a 2kXL and after i explained why I wanted a 60 over a 2k he was like oh alright but was astonised at the "limited" sampling time. But he told me about somethin RZA said where u take your sample ,speed it up really fast and then import it to Akai, then stretch it down or whatever. Wasn't sure if this would work or not on an Akai, he said RZA had like a Casio keyboard sampler or sumthin when he was forced to do this. Since my 60 is en route to my house I can't attempt to try it. Anyone know about this?

Yeah man, it's an old trick. It just means that you pitch the sample up on the turntable (45 RPM, +8 on a Technics 1200) and sample it into the 60. Then you just lower the pitch of the sample when it's in the sampler. Not really necessary unless you sample long loops and things. Also, the sound quality of the sample will suffer if you do this so be careful.

What about if I edited a loop then went into a software sequencer. Took the loop that I want at say 90 bpm, then do it at 180, then import it to the mpc? Hmm I'll have to try this see if it makes any difference, it would be more exact then 45+8.

You could definitely do that but the quality may come out extremely grainy and squealy if you double the BPM like that. Unless you're looking for a more rugged sound but that method may be a bit too rough.

However, definitely experiment with it and see if you can find a balance between saving sample time and decent sound quality.
