OT: ASR 10 question

I know alot of people in this forum use ASR 10's so I thought I might get some good advice.

I got an ASR 10 keyboard with a broken floppy. Any advice other than the $80 replacement drive from Chickensys.com? Any way to use a PC floppy or something of that sort?

No. Ensoniq used proprietary disk drives manufactured by Teac. Unfourtnately Teac does not distribute these types of drives any longer. If the Chicken Sys people would be kind enough (stupid enough) to tell you the exact serial of the drive, you could potentially find one on the Bay' for $10-20.

Here is the info on the TEAC drive it is the same FD-235HF that will work in the MPC (60 and 3000, it actually comes in the 2000 series), the only difference is the jumper settings.

are the jumper settings for the 3000 the same as the 60? will this teac drive work for the 60? http://www.aberdeeninc.com/abcatg/FDNS475.htm

Mixed reports on this, but yeah, check the 60 faq and you'll see the best 60 info on the floppy's from the archives.

If I get the drive referenced above, will I be able 2 use HD disks? I know the 60 will only use 790 KB but I would still prefer using HD disks as a somewhat more reliable storage medium.

not sure if this can ba transfered to 60s but,....
If you use HD disks with the Emax which actually only takes DD, the HDs are gonna go bad.

So, you might wanna check with some 60 head like Elmac about this..

yeah it's the same thing on the 60. HD disks will damage your floppy drive. Don't believe the hype about covering the hole! My question was 2 find out if since it's a newer drive that accepts HD disks, then would it still damage the drive 2 use HD disks. Any1 have the teac drive that might know..........

If you ever decide to go the SCSI route then let me know. I have one Asr-10 scsi interface for sale as well as an ouput expander. Get back to me if you or anybody else is interested.
