DSDD floppies...got a couple questions...

Okay I got the 60 crackin , been f*ckin around with the beast, but I couldn't save the work I did because I ain't got any floppies as yet. I'll be flying things into Protools in the meantime, but I'd like to have a 60 drum library in the works. Please no SCSI HD info, I only use floppies with my MPC's. I'd like to find a local place if possibe (SF bay area), but will order them if I have to.

Any recommendations on brands, etc.?? And the main thing if I do find sum'n locally do I want pre-formatted on non-formatted??

Tons of places online. Chec the Faq for more info on that. However you live in SFO so you should be able to score some floppies there check MAC friendly stores. My homie got a case from KINKOS when he was in recording a session in Cali a while back. Of course he just figured out they sold them by accident. They didnt even know they had them in stock. You may want to check office depot or radioshaq and compUSA. You just may luck up and find some pretty near your home I live in the boonies currently and I orderd a case of 100 from a spot online got them quick too! Mertile.com I think. Good luck!

there are sometimes good deals on dd's on ebay for bulk. i recently bought 100 3m ones real cheap. i wish i could find good 100 lots for 5.25

What are you using 5.25 Floppies for? Sp-12? Emulator II?

^^^ BTW jaem your avatar is sicc! I don't know if this is the preferred method, but I go 2 yardsales. Just look 4 the disks without the holes. Most of the time people will just give them 2 u. Nobody wants them... they look at u even more crazy when u pass up on the HD disks. If half of them work, then u've done well. It doesn't matter if they r formatted b/c u r going 2 format them in the MPC anyway. Just remember 2 bacc up frequently b/c DSDD disks were not intended as a long-term storage medium. -uno-

Yeah there are plenty of new ones out there still shrink wrapped and all to keep us all going strong.

I kinda miss using floppies, keeps you organized, but the load times are hard to get used to after using zips.

..is there any truth to the rumors that using ZIP drives alters your audio due to data compression?? I do know that some data compression can actually make your stuff more punchy sometimes (my boys DAT machine does that for some weird reason), but I've heard a few negative things about using ZIP drives. Me, I'm a floppy cat, as long as you make backups for emergencies, them sh*ts last practically forever if your take care of em.

But my mind is getting blown right now from cats talking about different CD's with the same source file burned sound really different. man this is just getting harder and harder.

Maybe that's y my disks go bad after a few months. Something 2 consider LOL. How long do yall shrink-wrapped DSDD disks last? How much faster is SCSI vs. the disk drive? It takes me about 3-5 min 2 load a kit on my stocc-RAM 60. I want 2 get an SCSI multi-card reader. If anybody has 1 of those, please post the model number. -uno-

never got the card reader to work, you may want a cleaning disk for that drive. only some of my disks went bad, maybe 6 out of 100 tops.

scsi VRS. floppy!? Awww man homie no comparison way faster! Okay takes you 2-5 min for a kit? Cut that in half or less. A few seconds, 1 minute at the most for a fairly simple kit if you use a scsi drive.
