MPC swing VS. DAW audio region manipulation....

Okay I saw a thread on another forum about swing 'techniques'. Now I myself only use swing on an MPC occasionally. Really only when I want that particular 'feel' you get when you use it. Using Protools, I've gotten much more into creating more live feels by moving audio regions slightly off the quant. grid or using a combo of quant. and off quant. drums.

To me, the resolution on DAW's allows for more flexibility that translates into more realistic 'feel'. But swing is still as popular as ever. What is the advantage to using swing rather than the DAW technique I described. Is this a personal taste issue, based on trends, or does swing do something magical and I'm missing the point?? Or is it simply the only way to achieve more 'feel' without the aid of a DAW??

protools has biult in groove quantize(its called mpc or something) if you want to use the same swing setup as on a mpc to quantize instead of moving it around untill it sounds right. i havent reallly **** wit it cuz i dont sequence things in protools.
using the swing instead of just slidini shit around would save you time if you already knew exactly where you wanted shit.
i think the choice of swing vs what youre talkin about def is an opinion/workflow tactic kinda thing. do what what works for you.

sorry el, may i use my .2 option? I'm not sure about this but, if you use the swing, does it still keep everything "locked" of sorts? By maunally changin the peices of the loop wouldnt that throw it off a bit? Say if a DJ was mixing a set from a song then wouldn't the snares or kicks never blend? I don't think I am accurately getting my point across but is it coming through at all?

Depends how good the DJ is
