I got the 60 early. this thing is really big. Probably because I was coming from the 1k. Now I have two more questions. If one of the transport/locate buttons is loose but still works how can I fix that? Also if it has the "old scsi" what kind of zip drives would work with it? I didn't know there was a old and new scsi ports but he said it was the old one. Help Please.

what O.S does it have? Does it have max memory? Doesn't really matter since you have a rack but I'm just curious.

It has the 3.10 os max and max memory. Its a lil dirty but that gives it more of a "grimay" feel. So I ain't gonna mess with tryna clean it. I read through most of the F.A.Q. Is the thing about how to fix the transport button in there? Also the scsi port says rsm...... something.... something. Which zip drives will work for this? I just got home and messed with it for a few minutes. The pads are alot more sensitive than the 1k pads. I guess thats just a good thing I have to get used to? Or can I change the sensitivity?

Oh yeah. It is the regular 60 not the 60II.

What should I use to clean it?

I use paper towels and rubbing alcohol, be careful to make sure the letters don;t rub off, it's never happened on mine but i've heard some people that used windex or somethin had their akai unit letters rub off. Don;t douse the paper towel with alcohol either, just a dampening and a good amount of elbow grease.

Thanks. I just made a basic drum pattern with the disks that came with the machine. I love how it doesn't exaclty "correct" everything it just.......I don't know....puts the notes where they need to be. I used to spend a hal hour trying to get the the quantize to make my drums fit on the 1k but it took less than ten minutes using the 60. Also I read the F.A.Q about the scsi. I will have to check on that. My equipment is down stairs but my computers is upstairs. So I will do some more reading then go mess around with what I read about. Where could I get the button fixed? Its not broken but its just real loose. I am searching for it right now just so you know I am trying to help myself I typed in "key OR button AND fix OR replace"

Windex has amonia in itr that's why it f*cks things up.
Just use 409 it cleans things real good and doesn't have anything that strong in it.
Alcohol will do some funny things sometimes depending on what the dirt or stain may be, plus can shorten the life of the pads if it contacts them.
Which ever you use just control the area of contact so it only goes where you want it to go.

It has some cracking paint here in there. It also had a little dirt and stuff that I cleaned off.

I really hate that so many 60 (mkI and mkII) paint jobs did that, it seem to always be in the same general areas also.
Keep an eye on the pitting and if it shows any signs that it might be getting worse get it repainted.
Funny thing is the other Akai products from this period don't seem to have this problem.

One more thing pop the lid on that thing and look inside for old eggs, might have some residual pest in there just waiting to find a new home.

Thanks. I will do that. I checked the yahoo group about my buttons. I found out there is a place called "mouser?" that you can buy new one from. Can someone give me a link to their site? Also after I buy new buttons how do I get them put on. Will a local music store do it? If not who can replace my buttons?
