question about SCSI on mpc 3000

I've never hooked up a zip drive to my scsi on my mpc 3000, until yesterday. My question is, is it hard to format? I tried and the 3000 does not even recognize the zip drive at all?Is there a way to set it up? I'm just wondering if I have a faulty scsi connection/ Thanks

ZIP100-SCSI or ZIP100-PLUS ?

ZIP250-SCSI with a 100 meg cart loaded ?

ZIP250-SCSI with a 250 meg cart loaded ?

Which SCSI ID is the drive on ?

Is the TERMINATION enabled on the ZIP drive ?

had the problem a week ago, thought it was the wrong cable.
Ended up being the filesystem and Rohans image of a 3k zip from http://www.mpc3000.com/iso_files.htm got the job done for me.

One thing that still bothers me though is: Am I right that you cant create folders with this filesystem? I guess you just make the partitions small but sometimes I have to save unfinished beats that have like 10-12mb uncut stuff that I might trash lateron and sometimes the complete beat is just a coupla megabyte... Is the solution to this having several differently partitioned zips or is there something the manual didnt tell me?

That image is one of MIKE GOINS's ( user: MPC3000 ) modified disk images.

MIKE did this a long time ago.

It is "stretched" to allow a 32 megabyte partition where the MPC3000 will only create 29 megabyte sized ones.

Of course you will use it with caution as the MPC3000 with current OS versions is limited "on the inside" to a size short of the 32 megabyte mark.

( having said that I can't say the MPC3000 has ever been too angry about utilising a disk created from the above disk image )

The "TRUE CROSS PLATFORM" ( and safe ) file system/partition scheme present in MIKE GOINS's MPCEDITOR software is my file system.

In MIKE's MPC EDITOR it is currently a single partition file system varient of what will be a more featured disk partitioning and file system in future MPC3000 operating system versions.

No folder functions in the MPC60 or MPC3000 file systems.

You could use the different partitions for this purpose...

Or...

You could always save your non-complete master pieces onto another disk... One labled "works in progress" or similar.

Thanks mpc3000le, that link did help a little. Still having problems though, so I'm gonna have to figure out the zip drive and go from there. I have the older version OS, where you have to have the drive connected and turned on, then turn on the mpc for it to register. Its an Iomega zip 100 drive I bought off of ebay, so mabye it is the problem. I'll figure it out sooner or later, thanks for the help guys.

In theory, any SCSI drive that is intended for connection to an MPC ( of any sort ) should be powered on before the MPC.

If you're running an OS older than 3.11 then you may have problems with certain firmware revisions of IOMEGA ZIP drives.

Which OS is your machine running in ROM ?

Are you able to boot a newer OS from floppy ?

Shouldn't matter where the ZIP came from provided it does indeed work...

The os is version 3.03. I tried loading the newer 3.11 os via floppy, but it wouldn't work. The zip drive is fine, I tested it on my friends mpc, and it seemed to work fine.
I need to study up on all of this, as I seem to be out of the loop with scsi. I never used it before, but figured I'd give it a try. I do appreatiate you tryng to help.

3.03 = Old version without support for certain SCSI device types ... , and quite a few other bugs too.

Try and connect an external fixed SCSI disk to your MPC3000 in an effort to verify that the port is functioning as intended.

If the MPC3000 SCSI port appears to be working ok then you will likely need a new OS version installed in ROM.
