Hello...
I'm thinking of gettin the s3000 xl, it's really cheap and i allready have a s950 so why not..?

My question is: #1 can i chop samples on the xl and transfer them to the MPC via floppy or HD?

#2 Is this a good sampler if you wanna create your own sounds/sample other synths?

#3 Anyone that uses the triton rack for sampling, is it better to buy a scsi exp for the triton and use that, or should i get the xl (the price is almost the same)

Peace

S3000 is a good ole skool sampler.
If you want modern features, you may not like it. But, I love the sound of the older S-Series sampler, particularly the S1100. That stuff is just so warm to me. Between sampling on it and copping samples from dealers, you can have every sound imaginable in your hands.

The MPC3000 will read the S3000 sounds.

Peace.

For a similar comparison ... I use an S3200 and an S3200XL with my MPC3000.

Yes you can chop on the 3000XL.

The MPC3000 will load the sample from an S series sampler pre 5K and 6K models.

Yes the 3000XL is a good sampler.

A Triton Rack is far more powerful than an S3000XL but doesn't support a program, sample or file format that can be dealt with by an MPC3000.

A Triton rack with the SCSI exp is a great box and strong in its own right.

I heard that this was the phattest sounding akai sampler because the 3000XL has two analog filters.

I've never heard it or used it, but some dude told me this

including S950's?

Ahhh ... whoops.

I forgot to exclude the earlier than S1000 series models.

Bad day at the office. :-)

Cheers for putting me right !

No akai sampler has analog filters.

I second that comment.

Digital filters in AKAI samplers ...

Damn Rohan when I saw you post I was afraid you were gonna correct me!
The special cable for the S950 and akai synths was the closest ever. You ever try that?

Nah ... lost the loaded 950 a LONG time ago ... a LONG time before I had any other AKAI samplers, including the MPC3000.

Never had any AKAI synths either. :-(

Thanx alot for your input!
I've been reading the articles "the lost art of sampling" in Sound on sound magazine. It really got me inspired to start sampling other sounds, not just loops! So now I'm even thinking about the s5000/6000, any input on these monsters?

Peace![/i]
