When I first got the 60 and still had the 3000 and 950. I rarely sampled into it b/c I was used to having 360sec in the 3k and the 60 only had 26.2 and I was burning that real fast from loading kits and trying to do multiple samples. After I got rid of the 3k, kept the 60 and got a 1200 I still used the 60 just for drums and s950 for loops. Things done changed though, don't even use the s950 no more (well actually I do, but for more than loops now) and it's maxed all around. Cool thing about the 60 is you can really pound it while the S950 peaks real easy...I also love that little compressor thing the 60 has. Pretty fly machine if I can say so...
Best thing I learned a while back was to just mess with your gear in all aspects. Right now I'm running strictly the 2 stereo outs from the 60 to a 4 track and using it solo. Learning a lot more about the machine than I thought it was capable off. Word bond, the other day I sampled almost a minute of various tidbits from a song and crammed it all into the 60 and still had memory left. Crazy machine it is. Damn, I'm drolling and rambling at the same time
Lately I been having fun chopping drum kits from records and samplin them into the 60, and then sending them to the 950, 1200 or 30 for modifications. I seen how them brothas did it in the old days and I'm loving it. You know, the days when dudes only had 2 kits and they freaked them 2 kits into 10 kits that all sound different.....makes me laugh at the mpc1000 forum where guys post up free kits yousendit style and the kit got 48 kicks, 37 snares, 100 hihats, and a couple guitar licks all wrapped up in a program ready to load in the mp. Just silly.
