Unless your friend cut up the front panel to house all devices at once then this sounds a bit whack. ( or you've worded your message such that we're not getting what you've said ).
Of course the MPC3000 can communicate with multiple SCSI devices connected at the same time to its SCSI bus provided you "make active" the device you wish to use at any one time.
My MPC3000 is connected to 2 x ZIP, 1 x CARD reader, 1 x CD-ROM and 1 x HD.
No power cycling of any device is required.
They are all connected to the external SCSI port.
Having said that ...
Assuming you were to mount devices inside the MPC3000.
There are, physical limitations that would present a problem with internal mounting of all the devices ( multiple ) you mention.
Check your friends machine again.
