Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

Hey, Sorry in advance i took this picture with a camera phone, This is a Mpc601, and it is the clip infront of the 3 fuses, the wire going into the burnt hole is the black wire. Any advice?

yup, that's a power supply problem. When mine did that it was because the transformer blew, but it doesn;t mean that's your problem.

This is something that will need someone who knows how to troubleshoot and repair a power supply, even a friend who really knows electronics can help, but verifying the voltages from the transformer and finding the faults in the power supply will require some technical skill.

DO you have a tech in your area?

im not sure im in orlando, Fl. So do you think i need a new power supply? thanks for helpin out

EPR electronics is in Florida, not sure if they are close to you, but check them out.

Not a whole new power supply, but you need to find out what parts are busted. Tell EPR to get their parts from VST in pasadena, as akai doesn't really stock the older stuff. It's straightforward stuff, nothing really hard for them to do. call them for a quote and search for other techs in your area.

also is the other side of the clip(the one soldered to the board) blown too?

I don;t know, odds are the clip is fine. if you had a multimeter you might be able to do a quick continuity check, but that wouldn't be of much help unless you were capable of testing and fixing the rest of the supply.
