SOMETIMES WHEN I'M IN THE SONG MODE JUST TRYING TO PROGRAM A SONG THE MPC WILL FREEZE UP. IT DID IT AGAIN YESTERDAY. NOT SURE WHATS GOING ON. THE THING THAT DID WORK WAS FOR ME TO GO TO A NEW SONG AND GO FROM THERE BUT THE FIRST SONG MODE WILL CAUSE MY MPC TO FREEZE NO MATTER WHAT. AND IT DOES IT ON THE THIS PARTICULAR TRACK ONLY. CREATE A NEW ONE AND I DON'T THINK ITS A PROBLEM. KINDA WEIRD THO CAUSE IT DOES IT FROM TIME TO TIME. ANY SECRET TRICKS TO UNDO THIS? I ALSO LOST ABOUT TWO HOURS OF DRUM PROGRAMMING. SOMETHING I WILL TRY AND NOT LET HAPPEN AGAIN.

If you've midi'd in external keys or module you might need to filter some midi data.

Yeah, go into midi filter page and block sysex and pressure, poly pressure.

what MPC do you have and what OS?

song mode can get slow when you start working with more than 13 sequences, but only a few second slowdowns when changing data.

bizarre that copying the song doesn't do it.

How long are the sequences you work with and how many tracks are in each?

WELL I HAVE ABOUT 8 SOUND MODULES. BUT USUALLY ONLY USE ONE OR TWO AT THE MOST. I HAVE THE MPC 3000 WITH 3.11 OS AND THE ASR 10 CONNECTED TOGETHER. DRUM PATTERNS ON THE MP AND ALL MY SAMPLES ARE IN THE ASR AND DOUBLES AS A MIDI TRIGGER FOR THE SOUND MODULES. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Hmmm ....

First...

Does your MPC3000 exhibit the strange freeze up behaviour when no MIDI devices are connected ?

Second ...

When your MPC3000 freezez up are you able to break out of the frozen state ?

From what I can observe it sounds like you may have some sort of MIDI loop going on.

Reduce your MIDI connections to being just the ASR-10 and MPC3000.

If you're using the ASR-10 as a controler and sound module then be certain to have the thing set in it's equiv of LOCAL OFF.

IE: Allow the MPC3000 sequencer to handle all routing and triggering requests.

ASR10 MIDI OUT > MIDI IN A of MPC3000 ( ASR set in LOCAL OFF )

MPC3000 MIDI OUT A > MIDI IN of ASR10 ( SET MPC3000 MAIN SCREEN TRACK/PORT in use to MIDI MODE )

Ensure that if you're not using the ASR10 sequencer that you disable all SYNC CLOCK reception and transmission modes within the ASR10.

Try re-initing your MPC3000 parameters too.

Now ... as for your machine running OS 3.11.

Are you running OS 3.11 booted from a floppy ? or booted from within ROM ?

Rohan.

well this time it did not unfreeze. i left it for hours and returned and it was the same. i boot up from rom not the floppy disc. i really don;t have a problem with the asr. the mpc is the brain and it controls everything. i turn off all other sound modules that i am not using. i did have problems with one zip disc that i do remember. the machine started triggering all of my drum sounds non stop and had to turn off and reboot. thanks agagin maybe you can give more advice.
