Sup Yall! Im trying to decide on either a MPC60 or MPC4000, or both!

I would really like to know what the differnce in sound on drums is between the MPC4000 and the MPC60. Anybody?

Also the difference in the sequencer's feel between the two?

Would it be cool to use the MPC 60 to Process the drums, then after there processed to get he sound load them back up in the MPC4000? Im trying to acheive a dirty yet clean clear sound for drums if that makes sense.

One last question, with the mpc 60 with the 3.10 software is there any difference at all betweem that and the mpc3000's 3.11 OS? Or are they exactly the same function wise?

Thx a lot guys and happy beat makin!

okay, kind of like dre/eminem/needlez, type of sound. Not that im trying to copy them but you know the vibe. They drums dont sound crunchy, ect. They sound clean but kinda dirty at the same time.

Pick one and figure out how to make what you want. Machines don't create the sound, you do. Use the search function on this site & Google and make a decision that works for you.

If we tell you what pants, shirt & shoes to wear, you'd say aaah hell nah! So what makes you think we should tell you which sampler works best? Thats for you to decide & either one of those samplers will help you achieve what you want.

Do some research here on your own and your questions should start getting answered.

Hope that helps!

i just wanna know simply which one sounds better and feels better In YOUR opinion. Thats all. Isnt that what the MPC forums are for? I dont wanna spend my money on one or the other and mess up. Common guys!

That was contradictory.

You want OUR opinion on what sounds best so that YOU don't spend money on the "wrong" one and "mess up".

Man, you already messed up with this thread. Mods please lock this, it's going nowhere.

And yeah, use the Search function, we've dealt with topics like this EXHAUSTIVELY in the past. I don't mean to sound like an a$$ but I'm so tired of these types of threads. That should tell you how many of there are...and there's never really any concensus as to which ones sound "better".

Previous advice was on point. No sampler is going to give you exactly the sound you want. You actually have to do a lot of work on you own to get your own sound. What a concept huh?

i think i know what he's asking. if you sample straight into the 4k you will get a clean sound. if you sample into the 60 it will dirt it up somewhat.

whether the dirt it gives is what you are looking for is hard to tell, its all about what you do around that. some of em's beats sound like he's applied distortion or one of these "grungelizer" type effects which can sound a bit OTT imo.

dre is famous for using the 3k which is more 60 than 4k in sound and swing, plus he gates and eq's everything hard throughout.

so really you would have to have a pretty good understanding of all of the above to know what might work, and then you probably wouldn't have needed to ask the question and get the cats above so heated (calm down guys its only a message board  )

i reckon if you got a 60 and stuck with it youd get a heavy sound but might find it limiting.

if you got a 4k youd find the possibilities were a LOT more but the sound and interface maybe not as funky-funky-dope-dope

All heated heads, remember we all have to start somewhere. Things that look simple or logical to you don't have to be for others. Just help him out or don't say anything.

Naw, we ain't heated. We were incredibly civil considering how annoying his question was. A quick search would have got him what he wanted but he wanted to be lazy instead.

We were helping him to help himself.

Give a man a fish; he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish....you know the rest.

Besides, I don't see you giving him any answers. So maybe you should follow your own advice.

Word? Do you even own a 60? Damn, yours must have some crazy, grit mod in it. My 60 doesn't dirty anything I put into it (which is quite annoying sometimes).

Just don't answer if you find the thread annoying... Why did you have to answer? Let someone else do it.

My advice is to invest in something like the 4000 (which I personally have no use for cuz I'm THAT old) and then buy an old rack sampler like the S900 or Roland S330. Either of these racks are easy to find (especially on ebay), will run you about $100 and you'll get a dirty sound. The next step up in dirty sound will most certainly cost you more than you're willing to spend (ie. ~$800 and up for an SP1200, MPC60, Studio 440, or Linn 9000 or even ~$300 for a well conditioned S950, or Emax).

And nowadays dirty sound is more an inspiration than necessity. SHit, I remember when you practically HAD to have an SP1200 to make hip-hop drums.

Is a very useful tool when used by the competent.

Besides, if you keep spoon-feeding people every answer they ask (instead of making them do some of their own leg-work) they'll never learn. You think you're being helpful? You're not. But if it makes you feel better then by all means...

A person is less likely to accept advice from a rude person. Lest they end up the same way. mkay?
