Describe the MPC 3000 Filter?

I listeniing to some of the Filter I've done with the MPC 3000 and comparing in to some of the things I've Dj Hi tek Do,Ive come to realize I can't think of a term that acturately Describes the MPC 3000 Filter.

I'd like to say it's grimey but I don't Know if thats right the term??

Any Thoughts??

Hmmm, I dunno, I like the 3K's filter on kicks because it's a lot faster to do than the 60/S950 but soundwise I prefer the S950's filter for sure

I wish there were more things you could switch up with the 3K, I also don't like the 16 levels feature with the filter on the 3K but I guess that's more of me being used to the 60?

the filter wel, kind of sucks?! it's old digital technology. Ithink the filter's one of hte worst aspects on the mpc3k

3001 use your ears not spec sheets.

The 3k filter is a rather harsh but accurate filter.
The 950 or Emulator III filters are smoother in
contrast. This isn't an analog or digital thing
either since I think the S950 has digital filtering.

The 3k resonance is good also but I find it must
be used sparingly since it is again, rather biting
(but then again, resonance usu. is this way).

When coupled with the delay line, there is no
end to the possibilities. At that point, you're
working on a synth more than a beat box.

It the filter at coloring sounds than doing stuff like say, filtered basslines.

i also dont like the filter that much, i find the frostwave resonator (true ms-20 clone) to be one of the best filters ive ever used. far far better than the sherman and the mpcs filter.

Pretty silly comparing a filter on a synth or sampler to hardware filters.

Ummm.. could you repeat the question?

the filter is so dope, i use it on everything i sample into that machine, its so handy to have and quick to use.. takes the digital edge away..

its one of the many reasons i love the 3k, u dont need to filter everything b4 sampling and mess with extra hardware if u dont want/need to..

true, true, definitely a plus...but also the same reason why I prefer my 60/S950 combo (me personally that is) I think the extra time I take to send stuff over to my S950 and tweak it, ends up in something better sounding. I do wish that the 60 had the same S950 filter in it, like the 3K...man that would be heaven. It is great just to go to the filter settings and get busy and I love taking the tops off of kicks, snares, samples etc


Quick question for the 3000 heads, and I might make a seperate thread if not enough people see it to answer, but what do you guys use to timestretch? I tried using the 3K with S950 to timestretch and found that the sounds were too different for me

I mainly use my MPC 2000XL for time-stretching, but only because I realize that I have to stretch a sample most likely when I´m working on this machine.
To get exacter results, I stretch samples with the VP 9000.

I hardly tried to apply the timestretch function on the S 950, although I wanted to get deeper into it...
