I just got a new floppy drive from route66studios and works but wont format disks (ds/dd). Anyone have this problem?

I didn't see any jumpers(little toggle switches, Right??) on it. I sent it back to route66studios then the guy Rich said the drive was damaged some how but it worked in my mpc besides the formatting, I never damaged it. I tried calling him back but he wouldn't answer then a couple weeks later I get it back in the mail hoping he fixed it or sent me a new one but no luck. So I'm not dealing with him anymore, BAD service!!!. Bought a drive from FORAT and works perfectly!! so trying to sell my drive on ebay if anyone can use it or fix it...

yeah from what i gather the original drives were jumperless
Rich is unbelievably useless I have no idea how they stay in business
Forat however i never heard a bad word about other than it's a bit pricey

I got the drive after almost 3 months and now i cannot format..
how did you get over this problem?

how much did forat charge for the drive? brand/model number??? jumper settings??? this info is EXTREMELY valuable to the 60 community... please do share as much info as possible...

I tried it and it seems to work and then when you format and read disks you have to tape up the hole on the disk if your using high density disks. Good Luck!

Guys listen there seems to be a huge misconception on the Route 66 drives and what actual discs can and can not be used and what OS can be used.
I have two MPC 60s running 3.10 both with a replaced Route 66 drives and both work 100% when used with the correct discs, these are DSDD 720k not HD discs...man read your manuals! It also helps if you install the drive correctly in the first place. The drive can read HD discs if the tape over the hole trick is used but chances are it will not format them because they are not DSDD 720K discs. The MPC dictates what size discs can be used not the floppy drive, this is because MPC has FDC controller on it's main board that is set to DSDD 720K.
Now many people say "YA BUT MY OLD DRIVE USED HD DISCS" ok I will explaine why the older original drives could use HDs.
Every time a disc is inserted into the MPC the on board FDC controller and the drive do a hand shake to determine the type of media you have used. The older drive with it's dated processor did a poor job of media detection and would allow a HD disc to pass. Now with new 2007 drives and smatrer chipsets the new drive and the FDC do a vary thorough hand shake and the if the disc media doesnt match the FDC then you get an disc error.
So use the correct discs which are DSDD 720K and copy all your HD 1.44 disc back to DSDD since the Route 66 drive allows you to read the HD just not format them.
I will look into the alledged MAGIC jumper settings that allow ALL formats to work but I would say 98% of all posts here are related to the use of wrong media or simply a bad install.

Funny both of mine (two MPC60s) work just fine, did you use the correct discs? this is a big deal...you have to use DSDD 720k discs not HD discs.
It's in your manual...not sure why you would use HDs when you can't even use all the space on the 1.44 disc when the MPC is a DSDD720K format only unit, due to it's FDC controller...also the DSDD discs are cheaper
Is the light on the drive ON or lit all the time? then you installed it incorrectly, you have the ribbon cable on upside down.
