SP-1200 samples into mpc 3000

I was just wondering - Is it possible to sample sounds on the sp-1200 and then save them to disk - and load them in the 3000 that way I don't have to use midi.

What's wrong with midi? To me, the swing of the SP can't be beat. It sounds better if you have 2 sequencers, one tight (MPC) and one loose (SP1200) That way it doesn't sound so quantized.

So you're saying that I should sequence it in the SP and then activate using the MP ? or am I missing something?

Just connect one midi out from the MPC. On the MPC, press the Tempo/Sync button to the right of the number pad and then the <sync> soft key 1 and make sure the Sync Out MIDI clock is set to the same midi out that is connected to your SP. On the SP, press the setup key and then type in 22 for midi parameters. at that point, you can specify poly mode which will make the SP slave to a specific channel or OMNI mode which will make it respond to all channels. Then when you use the transport keys on the MPC, the SP will follow.

3 choices:

1. re-sample
Probably the ideal way. plus I can attest to the fact the sample will pick up significant color going thru the D/A, A/D process.
This mmmm GOOOD. (though if you like that pristine sound, u may not like).

2. MIDI Sample Dump
Slow, kind of a pain.

3. Use the SP as a Midi Module.
I created a template/mapping for this years ago & it was posted online somewhere. Should come up in a search.
It mapped the keys in order to MPC pads.
Not hard to do manually, then just save it as a .pgm, any time you wanna use the SP as a module, just turn it on, load this .pgm & you're in business.

4. Midi Sync

I like the swing of the SP so for me syncing it to the MPC is the way to go

I actually use the SP as the master.. I've found the SP can drift relative to the 3000 via midi. It's bang on via click input (MPC metronome to SP time click in) but the SP doesn't stop/start so well in that case.

I also don't find the SP as a midi module as inspiring. That good ol SP swing seems to do it for me.

Shift the timing? It's a drift that accrues over time.. The longer you play the song, the greater the drift gets until the sequences are completely out of sync.. would a timing shift fix that?

I never have that problem. Are you sure you are syncing correctly? The SP will start and stop when you start and stop the MPC even when it's not slaved properly, at least on mine that is.

My bad... I had almost forgot about this thread.

Heres the shifting solution for syncing the 3000 to external clocks:

Hit the TEMPO/SYNC button and then SOFT KEY 1

On this screen you will find either a SHIFT EARLY or START function.
The SHIFT EARLY function allows the timing to be shifted by 1-20 ms.
The START function allows you to set the start point relative to the one coming from the unit youre trying to sync from.
